To be fair the walking speed in Gen 1 is nowhere near as slow as later games, so running shoes aren't that nessisary. Heck the bike isn't that much faster compared to it.

Gen 4 being the biggest offender of the slow speed in later generations. I'm greatful for the Physical/Special Split, but Walking in that Generation was torture. Don't even get me Started on Surfing in Diamond and Pearl (Thank Arceus for Platinum)

Skeeter Mania The game is 100% RNG dependent. There's so many instances of instant death. It's just frustrating.
