I dont know Alan Watts, but what he's saying here is what Epicurus was saying four centuries before christ: «Tὸ φρικωδέστατον οὖν τῶν κακῶν ὁ θάνατος οὐθὲν πρὸς ἡμᾶς, ἐπειδήεπερ ὅταν μὲν ἡμεῖς ὦμεν, ὁ θάνατος oὐ πάρεστιν, ὅταν δὲ ὁ θάνατος παρῇ, τόθ' ἡμεῖς οὐκ ἐσμέν.»

This mix is outstandingly sick, in the essence that the speeches of Alan Watts put in it just enhances the listening of the songs by a factor of 1000. I love it! One would hardly find mixes better than this in the Jazz World!

for those who search “When you die, you're not going to have to put up with everlasting non-existance, because that's not an experience. A lot of people are afraid that when they die, they're going to be locked up in a dark room forever, - Try and imagine what it would be like to go to sleep and never wake up. And if you think long enough about that...it will pose the next question. What was it like to wake up after never having gone to sleep? That was when you were born...you see...you...you can't have an experience of nothing so after you're dead the only thing that can happen is the same experience or the same sort of experience as when you were born.” ― Alan Watts

That idea of falling asleep and never waking up again actually scares me more of death than I ever was before. Of course it wouldn't matter when I die because I wouldn't know, but the idea of it terrifies me. I prefer the unknown. You go from hope, to hopelessness. The abyss seems a lot more interesting when you don't know what's inside, even if it's nothingness.
@skdymdz42563 ай бұрын
He asks next what was it like to wake up having never gone to sleep? Non-experience is just that. Its not an experience.
@PHanomaly3 ай бұрын
I hear you, except I feel just the opposite. Every night I wish I would never wake up. 😂 But I've never had a fear of death, I feel like I somehow got stuck behind here, and I have no doubt I'm supposed to be further in time. (Of course, there is no real time beyond here, but I'm here and this is where I feel time).

My main motivator in a lot of things is fear, fear of not making a deadline and such. So in my eyes, if you don't fear death, you don't fear that eventual deadline (pun intended) and you won't be motivated to live life to its fullest. Sorry if my philosophy is back asswards, this is just my interpretation of it. :D peace
