The force field was probably to show the viewers that Mike was in full control again. And I think Mal faded away because earlier, Mike was obviously unable to defend himself and had to rely on the evilness of Mal to do so. Now that Mike knew he could defend himself against danger, Mal's entire purpose was gone, and Mike's subconsciousness apparently didn't see any reason to keep him alive any more, thus the fading away.

Season one: Heather was the mean girl who was always on the edge of elimination so she formed an alliance and then tricked others off to save herself. Duncan was a bully who formed an alliance with force near the end, getting Bridgette kicked out. Season two: Justin was a poor excuse for a villain, he was a lazy dude that relied on looks to get stuff done for him. Courtney comes in, whines nonstop and cheats in the game. Season 3: Alejandro does what Heather did except he wasn't in danger of elimination. He also worked with Duncan and Heather to kick out some other contestants (People like Courtney and Owen). Season 4: Scott throws challenges to kick out his own team (because he didn't see that happened to Team Victory), creates makeshift invincibility statues while keeping the real one to himself, and schemes to form alliances just to kick out someone. Season 5: Mal is a psychotic supervillain bent on murdering others and complete domination. One of these things is not like the other...

Mike was the worst. He dumbed down every character just to make Mal look more intimidating. Gwen kicked a serial killer's face, yet got brushed aside like a bug when confronted by tooth-pick Mal. The TRUE Gwen would have smashed the juvie wannabe's jaw open. Courtney hid all of her tracks and DNA in Get A Clue. She was elusive and secretive practically all of TDA. How did Mal get his hands on her list? The TRUE Courtney wouldn't even let that weenie within ten feet of her or any of her belongings. Alejandro was able to manipulate anybody of any gender, mindset, or mentality. He also managed to pull an entire ship using his core body strength in Sweden Sour. How did Mal, the skinny little wire, manage to nearly break his wrist? The TRUE Alejandro would have sweettalked everyone into voting off Mal, right after he turns Mal into a pretzel. Duncan bullied Harold relentlessly despite the fact that Harold had punched him in the jaw. Duncan picked on DJ despite the fact DJ was a WALL OF MUSCLE. Duncan mocked Leshawna even AFTER she beat the living crap out of him! So why on earth would he be scared of MAL?! What could Mal do that was any worse anything Harold, DJ, and Leshawna could have done to Duncan? The TRUE Duncan would have bullied Mal/Mike for the scrawny geek he was! Cameron knew Jo was using him in Up, Up, And Away. Cameron had a sense of justice and fought against Jo. Cameron could easily tell that Jo was being sneaky and abusive. So how could Cameron be so blind to Mal? The TRUE Cameron would have seen the drastic change in Mike and EXPOSED him within Mal's first few episodes. Zoey spent a lot of time taking a second of each episode to express how someone could get hurt. She showed compassion for Cameron, Brick, Mike, and even Scott! So why is it that she became so insensitive as to keep Mal in the game, and especially take him to the FINALE!? The TRUE Zoey would have sent him home for medical help! Scott played Mike, Zoey, Cameron, and even eliminated Dawn, B, and Mike in Revenge! Scott was crafty enough to place fake idols around the island. He was savvy enough to know that B was a threat and that he could frame people and get them eliminated! He was so willing to betray everyone! ESPECIALLY HIS OWN TEAM! So why did Scott join forces with Mike in Bold and Bootyful? WHY?! The TRUE Scott would have spat on Mike/Mal's shoe! They were all dumbed down. Mal wasn't a villain, he was only made to look like one since everyone else was suddenly stupid. Not to mention Lindsay didn't know how to push, Lightning didn't know how to count, Jo can't aim, Sam thought he could cheat, Heather's freaking idol incident which shames me to this day, and Sierra's derailed meltdown.
