Names in Asian culture often carry significant meaning but can sometimes feel burdensome. My middle name, which is also my Asian name, means "trowel." This name symbolizes my resilience because a trowel digs through a lot of dirt. Throughout my life, my family has emphasized that I must work hard because of my middle name. They have even said that they don’t care much about my schooling or love life, as they believe I will always work hard and those other things don’t matter as much. My mom even explained Im not smart and I’m most likely not going to make much money so I will always work hard. My parents even went as far as handing all my other sisters chores to me to allow them time to study and spend time with friends but since I’m always going to work hard I should practice work.
