Class driver, hugely underrated. Russell and Jimmy had some battles over the years.

Russell was my favourite driver back in the day. Alway gave 100% commitment what ever he was driving. I saw him back in his MK2 escort days right up until he retired. Fondest memories were seeing driving the escort, Sierra cosworth and the Manta. In my opinion he should have been in the world rally championship in top machinery, but sadly the works team never picked him. A great talent, nice guy and sadly missed buy those who witnessed he's driving on the stages. I think Russell was like Nigel Mansel. A people's championship. I had the privilege of meeting him a few times out on rallies and would always have a quick chat to you. RIP Russell.

This is really, really great - thank you. I don't know if I realised it at the time but he was undoubtedly one of my childhood heroes. A great rally driver, articulate and witty in equal measures

Does anyone remember the name of his Co driver. I'm ashamed to say I've forgotten. An equally talented man I don't doubt

He had a few, what year?

@@jameslightfoot6315 hi James, well principally the footage at the start of the video in the Escort. I'm afraid I'm not very familiar with Russel and didn't realise that he had had several. Some pairings endure longer than others. I know I could look it up, but I find the comments section to be a mine of information, and can provide facts that aren't in the official records.

@@paulreilly3904 Mike Broad was probably he’s longest co driver and in the escorts he had a few including John brown, Paul white and a few others

He should have got himself a 6R4 in 1986, it would've been so different.

Would have been nicer to see him pair back with Ford in an RS200

he could have been so much better if his car did not break All the time.....He must have broke 100 Prop shafts in rally...lolol..... Brooks would have been Amazing in a 205T or Lancia..
