I know that Tami was frustrated, but I think what she didn't see is that he's a black man who has given up. He's tired of fighting, because it seems like we never win, so he's decided the only way to be happy is to ignore that part of the world, of his existence. It's a coping mechanism, and you can see it in the way he can't even acknowledge that everything she's saying is 100% true. She's literally talking to someone in denial.

More like he does not see himself as oppressed or as a victim of the "white man". He sees himself as an individual who can go out and achieve what he wants to in life, as opposed to having a victim mindset. David is 100% accurate in his assessment of the situation. Tami got frustrated because she couldn't succeed in convincing David that he was an oppressed victim. She most certainly isn't oppressed either and lives a more privileged lifestyle than her cast mates.
