Rip sabie and agreed. I think they could probably a few people who could come close but it'll be very difficult and while flintoff and co are much better than evens they still aren't it. Ironically I'd say sabine is one of the few people who could have made a new top gear work.

Not completely true, Clarkson was already onboard at old Top Gear for plenty of years before 2002, and that’s where his reputation for having such a sharp wit and creative turns of phrase became well known among the British public. He and Andy Wilman just decided to make the new series align more with their brand of comedy and we can see what the result of that.

Top gear gives me nostalgia of waking up really early on a Saturday morning and seeing reruns on TV. I remember seeing the one with the funny combine harvester in the snow when I was younger and that episode is basically a tumour in my brain now, but it's good

There are very few average programmes that had the time to naturally evolve into something worth watching (They get pulled years before with the impatience of having to make money, as we all know these days) .... the results are unique and legendary - however much we may moan - the BBC extended this to many people in the 80's - an opportunity to learn a craft ! I am sure JC, JM and RH are quietly very grateful to this institution, which gave them that time... I think the small budget they had actually forced them to work on content rather than aesthetics, which I am sure AW now sees too....
