Best of Vasiliy Sokov [The Legends]

Vasily Sokov, who was born near Rostov, moved with his mother to Leningrad in the mid-1920s. He became the champion of the city among schoolchildren in 1928, in 1930 received the 1st category in drafts and in 1932 for the first time became the winner of the adult championship of Leningrad. Later Sokov received the title of master, became the silver winner of the VI USSR Championship in 1934, two-time winner of the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions and finally, in 1938 won the VII USSR Championship. In addition to successful performances in tournaments, Sokov was a leading drafts theorist and drafts composer of his time, who developed several new debuts in Russian drafts (including Sokov’s defense, Leningrad defense and Novo-Leningrad defense ) and won several all-Union competitions on drawing up etudes. He also studied chess composition and received the title of candidate for the master of chess.
At the beginning of World War II Sokov went to the front. Temporarily returning to besieged Leningrad, he managed to become the silver medalist of the city chess championship in 1943, and after breaking the blockade he returned to the front and died in Estonia in March 1944. The first post-war championship of the USSR was devoted to the memory of Vasily Sokov.

Amazing!... Sokov died in World War II. If he had lived until the times of popularity of 10x10 draughts in the USSR, he would have definitely beaten Iser Kuperman and become the world champion. His style of play would radically change the existing views on the theory of the game. And the whole history of draughts would have gone differently.

@@lbomcarvalho Olá! Eu tenho duas versões do Aurora, todas gratuitas. Tenho a versão Aurora Borealis 3.6 lite, que vem com o banco de dados, em damas russas com 118.548 partidas, todas com datas. Nela há muitos jogos do Sokov. Tem banco de dados também de damas na regra brasileira com 19.180 partidas, bem como banco de dados nas regras checa, inglesa, italiana e espanhola. O download do programa Aurora Borealis 3.6 lite, é gratuito. Ele tem muitos recursos. Tem a versão 4.0 do Aurora, que também é gratuito, mas eu mesmo prefiro a versão 3.6! Um abração.

@@osiasbispo4065 Meu amigo você não faz idéia da utilidade da sua ajuda aqui. Eu tomei um tempo e realmente tive acesso às informações como você mencionou. Porque sua ajuda foi valiosa? Eu sou professor, gostaria de poder ministrar uma turma de raciocínio lógico mas fazendo uso do jogo de damas (no passado usei o jogo de xadrez) ... mas xadrez é mais complicado para este propósito. Estava com problemas financeiros, além de ser usuário linux, achava que comprar o software era a única forma de seguir adiante com os meus propósitos ... aí veio a sua ajuda, e graças a Deus posso dar prosseguimento aos meus objetivos educacionais. @@lvlJanicki amigo,fico vendo essas partidas , a forma dos Antigos mestres jogarem, numa época que a tecnologia era quase nenhuma,não tinha o auxílio de programas de damas como temos hoje e no entanto eram capaz de jogarem lances tão complexos e mágicos como esses que vemos nas partidas a cima e de outros grandes mestres como os nomes que citaram...São esse tipos de partidas que nos mostram tamanha beleza e complexidade que é o jogo de damas...
