Be aware, there is an essential truth and beauty in all things. From the death throes of a speared gazelle to the damaged smile of a freeway homeless. But that does not mean that the invisibility of something implies its lack of being. Though simpleton babies foolishly believe the person before them vanishes when they cover their eyes during a hateful game of peek-a-boo, this is a fallacy. And so it is that the unseen dusty build up that accumulates behind the DVD shelves in the rumpus room exists also. This is unacceptable.

Don't rely on a god or a figurehead to guide you in life, take the plunge, and realize every day is new and our time is short. We are not the center of the universe, and life is always going to have suffering, but without that suffering, we wouldn't have purpose to help and heal others in many ways, or inspire us like Herzog has to find our own meaning without the continued harm and manipulation of others to get close to what we believe we want. His point about chickens is spot on lmao. Look a chicken in the eye and tell me you're still certain they're intelligent enough to feel pain.

We know some birds are very smart. Crows, parrots for example. I wonder if we've bred the brains out of chickens. Maybe it's just as well, for them.

Chicken demonstrate cognitive skills on par with other mammals and primates. If you hide an object from a chicken, they will still know it's there - this is something even young human children aren't able to do. Even if they were uniquely dumb, it wouldn't justify the horrific things we do to them (cutting their beaks off, throwing baby chicks in blenders, feeding them until they're too obese to support their own body weight, killing and butchering them, etc.).

There was a podcast where Paul F. Tompkins pretended to be Werner Herzog. They asked him what movies he’d watched recently and he said “I watch the timelapse videos of dead animals' carcasses. Have you seen the one with the raccoon? It deteriorates into *nothing* “

I'd love to see a classic Werner Herzog analytical documentary-short in which his subject is Werner Herzog. And I don't mean one wherein he just reflects on himself and his life, but one where there is literally just 2 Werner Herzogs - the one making the documentary-short and the one who is the subject of the documentary-short. And it's Werner Herzog spending like a week living with himself and conducting interviews with himself. I feel like Werner would come away with an extremely, straight-up _comically_ negative opinion of Herzog. Lololol! 🤣😂

Yes!!! “Turn right after the high school, where budding minds are milked of their final expressions of zealous youthfulness to be violently hammered into cogs of shame and desperate, hollow ambition…guided aimlessly and dispassionately into the machine of lackluster society as dreams of curious creative exploration are mortally wounded to give way to the endeavor of getting laid beneath a beer pong table in a college frat house. Rerouting.”

I found out about Werner Herzog via Clams Casino’s music video using clips from Aguirre, The Wrath of God. I watched the whole film when I was like 14-15. Didn’t really appreciate it then though now I really like Werner Herzog just for his character and all his little cameos here and there. He seems like a guy who really enjoys the craft in a completely unpretentious way.
