My two cents: You cannot know what chair suits you without trying them yourself. You also can't tell if it going to be comfortable until you've sat in it all day. For example, I tried many many chairs on this list, but could not find a Gesture in person. I thought the gesture would be sweet: ordered it and within a day my glutes hated me. Something about the way the seat base shoved me forward made my muscles tense all day. I got the leap v2 and have not looked back.

I would pay a decent amount just to go to a warehouse somewhere with a bunch of display models to sit in them and see what I like. Shopping for a chair has been impossible for someone whos tall and has an unusual body frame.

I'm still getting it dialed in-have a curved back and I am currently trawling the net for guides on getting it perfect; the seat is amazing though. @@rzerzerzerzer3693 I do occasionally, e.g. when wearing a wool sweater the other day (Ireland, January...) and then touched my keyboard (metal frame) I got a zap, enough to make keyboard backlights blink on and off followed by the USB disconnect/connect sound-not good, but thankfully nothing damaged. I now tend to discharge by touching my elbow off a metal desk lamp if wearing wool etc. Far from ideal.

I just returned an anthros. It’s a great chair and the company was fantastic to deal with, but I’m a person with no butt and that made the chair not fit me because I had no anchor to keep me down and not pushed forward by the pelvic support, so it was easy to slump and have bad posture. I switched to the gaming embody and like it so far

I have the Colamy Atlas. Got it a little over a week ago. Very nice chair for the price (I paid $240). My only complaint is the seat is not deep enough. Even with the depth adjustment all the way out, it doesn't reach the back of my knees, so I find my legs get tired from lack of support. Still happy with it though.

I've been in a Colamy Neza lately. Assembly was a little bit fiddly and overall quality is not the same as Haworth and Steelcase, but honestly this thing competes. And it costs a fraction of what those do. You don't get a big warranty, but you do get a really good design and high level comfort. Neza is really more comfortable than Embody for me (I can manspread and move around without those handles in the way). It can go on the next tier list. Thumbs up.

As you know already, I own/have owned just about every high end chair out there and I am sitting in my Humanscale Freedom now that I have owned for about half a year and I still love it and since I have had it I have not looked for another chair. My only negative is it doesn't have the build quality of something like my Leap but that does also make it light. The weighted recline system works great for me and I love the headrest. Anyone that says a chair without a headrest is good is lying. LOL. Aeron will forever be trash, Haworth Fern ugh and Embody I still have not decided if I liked or disliked that chair to this day. I love my Leap, just want a headrest and the Gesture arms, that would be a god tier chair.

The Humanscale Freedom has a hex screw adjustment for the recline, so you can adjust it beyond the default weight-based movement. Other channels have explained this going back a few years, not sure why you guys haven't figured this out yet. Also, the arms on the Freedom lower far enough to almost be completely out of the way - a feature that nearly every other ergo chair can't get close to. In reality, the biggest complaint about this chair, like other Humanscale chairs, is the noise. Otherwise, this should be an A-tier chair.

Thank you so much for putting together the tier list. My office/ergonomic chair, which I’ve used for the past 25 years, broke about five days ago, so I’ve been watching review after review to figure out what to look for. I spend a minimum of 12 hours at my desk per day, so I’m looking for a chair that’s best for long sitting. Also, my height is only 5'2", so having a chair where my feet can comfortably reach the floor without needing a footrest is necessary. Given this, which chair would you recommend? After watching multiple reviews (initially, I was considering the Branch Ergonomic Chair, but I changed my mind), I’m now thinking of one of these three: Herman Miller Embody Gaming Chair, Haworth Fern, or Steelcase Leap v2.

The Gaming Embody (not sure about non-gaming) has a killer flaw where it generates an enormous amount of static electricity, even in non-winter environmental condition. Winter in the NE? Forget it. Static guard can maybe give you an hour or so of reprieve. It's unsafe for electronics, I've actually killed a device already with it. There's no way you can even work on a PC or similar without a grounding strap, playing with fire. It ends up causing my monitor to power cycle unless i reach up and touch a screw on my light switch panel within reach. I'm actually looking to get rid of mine as much as I like it otherwise just for this problem. It's almost criminal that it's a "gaming" chair, forget building/maintaining a PC with it. IMO it should be recalled. I can't possibly exaggerate the amount of static it generates, loud painful discharges.

I tried both at the store. Negligible difference between the builds, the fabric on the gaming version has about an inch or two of extra padding. Ended up buying the non-gaming since i had a corporate discount. The gaming has some nice padding but would not pay $800 more for it. The embody is now my endgame forever chair tbh Ultimately you just need to go to a store and sit in them before you buy. Because they are very slightly different and it will just come down to preference

I bought 2022 fern with the tags on it from fb marketplace for 80 bucks, too bad the lumbar destroys my back

Idk how difficult it is to remove the built in lumbar, but I bought mine without and found that a simple small lumbar pillow from amazon stuffed into the opening in the back is about perfect. Gives enough of a lump that also has some give to it has you sink in
