The story was in the original Unreal Tournament, but it was all in writing, they didn't do cutscenes and if you watch the teaser trailer for this episode, they actually recreate the intro cinematic from the original Unreal Tournament. All of the secret level episodes were amazing, but this one is my favourite by far. Also the robot X4N (Xan) I think is either meant to be the same character or a huge reference to the champion of the entire tournament in the first game, Xan Krieger, who is also a robot/android.

Aye, it's more about "lore" I guess you could say, this is the best type of adaptation, it was why I prefered say...The Fallout adaptation over The last of us, coz it takes advantage of the lore and brings it to life. Really cool detail about Xan, thanks for sharing!

@@CouchPatroll So true, I preferred Fallout as well, I felt like they changed far too much in Last of us, mostly because they were retelling an already told story. The changes felt very off to me because of that.

Fallout was also like one of the first thing's we watched for the channel, if you're a fan, you could check out some of the tributes I have for it too on the channel, I think you'd enjoy them. But regarding TLOU...I agree, I feel like re-telling a story from a video game is just inferior to taking the lore and working with it instead to create something new in that world.

The Xan in this episode is our Xan that we know before he became tournament champion. Just like how they showed Malcolm. Two of the most iconic UT characters.

@@Evilshtt353 I believe in UT2k4 they expand on Xan, stating that he lead the rebellion/uprising. Liandri eventually stops it and he is then reprogrammed as a combatant because of his effectiveness. Likely why he shares the same eye as the other designs, but not the rest of the additions to his body.

To explain some of the weapons: - The pistol is called the Enforcer and is the standard sidearm of the Tournament - The shotgun is the Flak Cannon, which either impacts a metal disk to shoot fragments or launches the whole disk to explode on impact, effectively making it a sort of grenade launcher. - The big gun that shoots a huge missile is the Redeemer, and, IIRC, it's a cruise missile. That explains the huge explosion. If the missile is successfully shot down, however, the announcer calls "DENIED!" - The gun that shoots the bouncing saw blades is the Ripper and was seen in the first game, Unreal Tournament (1999). - The three-barreled gun is the Rocket Launcher and the model they used in this episode is actually the version seen in Unreal Tournament 3. The longer the trigger is held on the rocket launcher, the more rockets were loaded, up to three rockets per shot.

You just butchered the Flak Cannon big time mate :) It does not shoot disk, it shoots shrapnel primary and the secondary launches a ball with a smiley face on it that explodes on impact into a cluster of shards.

Nah, in the original plot both robot and human slaves fight alongside Xan. He's sort of the only one to ever hurt the Liandri corp, and gets idolized for it.

I mean, since theyre robots, he could probably just absorb their "consciousness's" into his own mainframe, and redirect them into new bodies or a simulated afterlife.

They aren't conscient like X4N is. "He" is the only one that has awareness, he expands his consciousness to the rest of them when he wants and when they are destroyed he just loses connection to that unit.
