I rewatch your videos like this every few months, just to be encouraged again. My favorite quote of you is,,, It's the one that works for you. That always sets me to thinking about 'what is it’ that actually works for ME? Once I wrap my head around that I can get moving forward. I enjoy your soft-spoken way of imparting your knowledge. I just found you and your channel and I've just watched like 4 of your videos and I can't wait to dig into more. Wow, so much good stuff. Thank you for sharing cheap or free options and options that don't take up a lot of room. I just love what you're doing. I used to work in schools, and there was a teacher who helped her students make home-made (school-made?) magazine holders, and then the kids used them for organizing homework, etc. What was cool was she just used the largest cereal boxes. She left the base and sides intact, and then traced and cut out the two longer sides to mimmic the shape of a magazine holder.
@MargareteMiller2 ай бұрын
What a cool idea!! How did she stabilize the cereal box? Wouldn't it fall over easily? This sounds like a great idea, though. 💜 Thanks for watching and commenting 😉
@KarySchump2 ай бұрын
They would fall over if anything too heavy, so, yeah, limited options for that idea, depending on your storage space and materials. Thank you. :)

Great video! I have limited space. I'm currently using a medium sized pencil case to hold most of my supplies, it even fits my A6 size glue book. I also have a clear plastic envelope to hold my rubber stamps. I keep a few other things in my desk drawers. It's working well for now.

I use cardboard trays from canned cat food and cut down different sized boxes to use that fit in the trays. I keep the tray and boxes at 2 inches that way I can stack the trays on top of one an other. I use painters tape for labels, because I change what is in the trays, all the time, so I can easily remove the labels and add a new one. I could make them all look nice by covering them with matching paper, but I don’t have the time and I want to make journals more than I want a “cute” organizing system. 😁. I use wax paper in binders for stickers. I have all my stamps off wooden blocks and the clear stamps out of the packaging and put them in binders. I attach all my brads to clear plastic sheets. I just take my awl and punch holes and put the brads on. I store them in binders. I use plastic gutters for my rolls of ribbon. I put my paper napkins in photo pouches and that way I can flip through and find what I want. I use repositioning tape for some paper items, but I am going to switch to post-it notes. That is much cheaper. Thanks for the ideas. 0:15

What types of things do you store in photo albums?
@saskiaseaglass9504Күн бұрын
Awesome video! I envy your deep drawers. I find that I need big boxes with lids so they can stack in a cupboard. Clear plastic is always good, and smaller clear plastic pockets or zip-locks inside the boxes can help to section groupings of things. Only problem with boxes- the papers are not sitting upright like yours! Clear plastic drawers like yours are great for good visibility/accessibility of little pieces.

Yes, clear plastic bins with lids are good 👍🏼. I would have gone with that set up but I already had another system going 🤷🏻♀️

Many great ideas! Thanks! 🤗🕊️ I find display cartons in supermarkets for free (when the items are sold out of course 😅) They have sturdy backs and slanted sides. Perfect for the desk. I also bought a thingy for holding jewellery (charity shop find) It is double sided with small see through pockets and it has a hanger which makes it very convenient to hang in your creative space. Perfect for ephemera and other small things. Holds a lot and easy to see every item.

This video was just on time for me. I live in a tiny cottage with very little space. I have storage bins I have to store in my closet. My only craft space is in my kitchen on my table. Yesterday was so frustrating trying to craft and searching through containers to find supplies. I found your idea of using binders or sketch pads to be of great value to me. @@MargareteMiller That's for sure, took me a long time to figure that out, a lot of frustration along the way but then one day it dawned on me, the same way I prefer to "prep" ingredients when I'm cooking (to save time, etc) I could have my artsy supplies "prepped" in a similar way-at least by knowing where things are-lol

I have a paper organizer shelf (the one that fits into the kallax from ikea) and what I like to do with it is I have trays that are loaded with different types of papers in various sizes. Some trays are drawer organizers with compartments for small things and in those I have stuff like postage stamps, stickers, little fussy cuts etc. other trays are for holding larger pieces of paper - gel prints, cardstock, coffee dyes, book pages… I change it up all the time based on what I’m working at the time. I like having the open trays available all the time so I can just use them as I go but I do change them out when I have a large project with specific stuff I want to use. I also use clear plastic poly envelopes and clear plastic project cases (I like the 9”x12” sizes) I organize and label them by type. I use this for “finished” gel prints and paper dyeing etc that are waiting to be used. I am a gelli printer too, and I find that those papers are a process that sometimes takes a long time because I produce such a high volume of papers when I gel print. It can quickly get overwhelming so I came up with an easy solution. I got some of those desk top hanging file organizers and created a system for my work in progress gelli prints. I created 3 categories by size and then subdivided them further into warm colours and cool colours. I’ve played with other categories but this is what I’m using right now. The problem I struggle with most is that I’m a nerd for organizing stuff but if I drill it down too far, I end up with endless containers of stuff and it becomes a real chore to search through and in my creative flow I actually prefer to have a mixed up bunch of stuff to rifle through. I have to strike a balance of putting things away to make it easy to find again later, and easy to work with when I’m in the middle of a project.

Great shares Margarete. I saw those boxes at Target in the past and didn't think to stand papers up in it. My share is that I use vintage office metal dividers that are long with big space between tall dividers. I put larger similar papers inside and some in large baggies, upright. I hope you know what I'm talking about. 😊❤

Curious -- I implemented your suggestion to find that 1/2 hour to organize ephemera. Did that the other day and labelled every bag. Much easier to locate what I'm looking for. The collaging material has to be compatible with all my bins on a shelf in my closet which contain my fabric, threads and other sewing implements.
