It's one of the best indicators by far, especially if you're into trend trading. For me the sweet spot is when the signal line is inside the histogram because that usually means there's a lot of momentum that'll propel the price further in the direction of the trend. It's a fantastic filter in that respect.

Thanks for the video! How do you reconcile if multiple time frames show different MACD trends? Example: 4H chart shows crossover and the end of a DOWNtrend, but Daily/Weekly/Monthly show end of an UPtrend.

That depends on what time frame you use to trade but usually higher time frames have stronger support or resistance. If you're scalping then you should refer to shorter time frames to see what's happening there and make quicker moves. If you're trying to swing trade then referring to higher time frames will give you a better picture and probability.

Could you pls try testing other macd strategies? For instance with higher settings (48, 104, 36) or using multiple macds with different time resolution. This way you have one for trend and one as execution

Depends on how long you're willing to hold a trade, if you're going to hold for days, of course you won't follow the 5 minutes chart

I used to have this issue, I trade MACD on 30 min time frame and see higher time frames to see what it is doing. For example, Gold on daily is long, 4H is showing short term short, 1H is showing ranging and 30 mins showing buying so I would buy and hold for a long term trade.

Hi. Can anyone pls tell me how do you decide e.g the lines crossover on Macd indicates to go long but the price is below ema200 or if the crossover shows short but the price is above the ema? do we wait for the price to cross the ema into congruence with the crossover? If I wait then sometimes the price is very different from where the crossover took place. The lag gets worse on higher time frames. 2nd if 1min shows long, 5m shows short, 15m show none , 30min long, 1h short and you only want to keep the trade for a day or couple of days what do you do?

I only use it to see the macd line cross the zero line. Combine that with the 200 moving average and you are more than likely on the right side of the trend. I’ve never found any success with the crossover strategy.

what if price go up early even macd not yet on the boundary. sometimes macd lags between the boundary for a very long time, very small volume i guess? and sometimes fail to make upward green columns and went down once again.
