Great video. Best I’ve seen for torque box install in an early Mustang.

Awesome video, explained a lot. I always thought the 68 Mustang handled better than the earlier years. Also, I appreciate that you didn’t take the entire front end of the car off to install the torque boxes.

I’m restoring a 64 1/2 d code and have replaced the entire floor pan from firewall to trunk plug welded every inch apart. On the jack alone you can already see the difference in deflection is amazing. Will be adding front torque boxes now

Nice Vid. Keep em coming. Waaaaaay back in the day, I started rebuilding my 67. It was pretty rusty too. At the time I thought the right hand torque box was rusted completely out. Nothing left at all, so I replaced both, not realizing it only came with the one side........LOL. Turns out some mistakes aren't really mistakes after all :)

Any concerns about moisture and dirt getting trapped inside the torque boxes and becoming rust traps?
@GatewayMustang3 жыл бұрын
Nope! We spray weld-through primer on the inside of the torque box before we install it, and at the rear there ends up being a small passage that any water and debris can escape through.

You stated those are Dynacorn Torque Boxes, are you using the 3654 & 3655 WT for 67-68 for Coupe’s & Fastbacks and modified slightly for the 65-66’s ? Great video for fitment, thanks

Great video. We're restoring our '67 fastback right now. How do you prevent rust behind these panels (i'm paranoid about rust....not sure if it's justified...), but wondered what could be done to ensure long life for metal.

I inherited my mother's 66 mustang coupe. If I install L & R torque boxes do I still need subframe connectors? I plan on-street driving and maybe going to a 4 bbl holley
@bransonfleischman22333 жыл бұрын
On a street car, you could get away without subframe connectors and just go with the torque boxes. But they work even better in conjunction.

Very informative video and a must when we start on my ‘66. My only question is regarding the last triangulated piece you fitted. Is it a mud and moisture trap? If so I would make a decent sized drain hole.
@GatewayMustang3 жыл бұрын
The torque box gussets actually leave a small opening between the torque box and frame to prevent water/debris build-up.

It's a little concerning that a prop wasn't placed under the cross member to take some of the weight of the engine off the frame rails before the torque boxes were welded in. I have seen some of those vehicles sag over an inch on the lift.

Hi, nice vid. Any info on what brand of torque box? as the link below dont seem yo work for me. Thanks

We use Dynacorn for all of our sheet metal.
@paulnoone81033 жыл бұрын
@@GatewayMustang Thanks for that, i did look for them at cj's and could only see dynacorn 1 piece units. Do you separate them or buy them that way, and where from. Thanks again.

The torque boxes come as a left and a right side with two panels per box, and the torque box gussets are a separate part.

Why didnt you do anything on rust prevention inside ? The steel torkboxes are not very good prevent against rust. Spray weldtrue on them or undercouting These things rust out easy.. !

The mustang front suspension was crap to begin with. You're just adding a band-aid to a bad design.
@GatewayMustang2 жыл бұрын
Joe, this has relatively nothing to do with suspension but rather an integral chassis brace that not only makes the car safer, but improves overall handling performance by making the unibody stiffer.
@Galactusz0072 жыл бұрын
@@GatewayMustang Don’t mind Joe, as he’s obviously clueless of this concept.

@@GatewayMustang True, the unibody needs stiffing. I owned a 66 mustang GT 289HIPO back in the early 70s. It was a lot of fun, but it seamed ford went out of their way to do things the hard way.
