I dunno, those stock pickups definitely got a vibe. Both sounded good, IMO.

The stock pickups in the Sonic series are among the hottest I have ever heard in the Squier line
@sonojon0 Жыл бұрын
Tell me about it! I initially did not like them out of the box and already had plans to swap them out. They definitely sound way better to my ears with the upgrade now.

Stock ones sound better for my ears somehow. Damn. Time to reconsider my gear acquisition affection

That might also depend on the style of music you play is why you might like the stock pickups compared to the EMGs

The EMG GEEZER BUTLER pickups are awesome, Butler himself said that it gave him the old school fender sound he really liked without the problems that came along with it. I’d love to put a set of these for a project bass!

Those stock pickups are nice ceramic pickups, however I am putting Geezers EMGs in my Sonic Precision Bass when it comes in ,in a few days.

Was thinking of getting the sonic bass and steve harris pickups. The geezers sound great!

From what I heard, a slight difference, The EMG are a bit more open and clearer in the higher end, but I also like the compressed tight sound of the stock pickups.

Of course I’m only listening through my tiny iPad speakers, but I think the stockers sound better!

The Geezers sound bright, but they've got some clack to them now which i try to avoid. But i do like the brightness of the new ones.

As someone saving up for this exact bass, the one thing I’m _definitely_ gonna swap out is the bridge (for a four-string tremolo because, as an amateur cellist with about 9 years of experience, _I need vibrato)._ However, after seeing this video I’m considering swapping out the pickups too. I won’t be certain until I actually try the stock pickups for myself though.

Also the solderless system with the Geezer EMGs eliminates buzz and hum.

Buzz maybe, but hum has NOTHING to do with soldering.

What I want to ask is which is better, Squier Sonic or Squier Affinity PJ?
@OldPeepaw Жыл бұрын
I'd go sonic. P/J doesn't really sound like this. The J pickup affects the circuit in a way that I cannot explain but I've NEVER been happy with a p/j

These EMG's are half the cost of the bass itself which already has decent stock pickups.
@plamenpenkov28654 ай бұрын
If the added cost of the pickup brings the total cost up to the level of a better instrument, which it does, swapping pickups is a mistake. This pickup makes sense on a Mex Fender, a Classic Vibe, maybe even an Affinity, not on an entry level instrument. Nothing wrong with the stock pickup. Leave it alone. Much better to invest in better tuners, maybe bridge although even that is overkill imo.

EMG ou Fender Custom shop 62?

That’s good questions as I’m not too familiar with the Fender CS 62s. Only the Pure Vintage Fender pickups. I’ll add that to my list of pickups to try out. Thanks for the comment!

Kind of off topic, but what do you think about Indian laurel fingerboards? Aesthetically.
@sonojon0 Жыл бұрын
Aesthetically, they’re not good looking but the more you play the instrument the less you care less about the fingerboard being Indian Laurel. Especially if you condition the fretboard often, it starts to naturally darken.

The necks on the sonic series look so pale, almost like bare wood. I used kiwi tan shoe polish on my sonic bronco, and now it's yellow like my mexican fenders. Much better.
@sonojon0 Жыл бұрын
I agree, even after applying three coats of lemon oil it looked a little better than it was unboxed. Might have to try some of that shoe polish next
@jasondorsey7110 Жыл бұрын
@@sonojon0 I took out one of my mustang pj's to compare them afterwards, and they were very close in tint. By my understanding they use just a really light coat of poly to seal the wood, but it's still porous enough to absorb the polish like a stain
