Mir Osman Ali Khan created this water body as part of the damming project of the river Musi in the year 1920. The idea was to supply drinking water for Hyderabad city. The lake spreads over an area of 46 sq.km and is the chief drinking water source for the twin cities.
Osmansagar, also called Gandipet, is an excellent picnic spot located on outskirts of Hyderabad.
The total composite length of the dam is 2,900 feet, and the total length of a dam is 6,300 feet with 1,790 sqft area of water spread. The maximum depth of the water above bed level and below FTL is 104 feet.
Osman Sagar was created by constructing a dam on the Musi River in 1916, to serve as drinking water reservoir for Hyderabad, and also to save the city from floods.
Main Attraction in Gandipet is Gandipet Eco Park, This eco park was inaugurated by Telangana IT Minister Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao. Another new landscape park at Gandipet on the banks of Hyderabad's Osman Sagar lake was opened in 2022.
