I like plastic ones for target shooting.Especially the yellow and orange ones as are easier to see if targets missed outdoors. I like the aluminium ones with broadhead tips for non target shooting but for just in case situations.

Good tests, confirmed what I already knew really. The one thing you didn't mention is how you can increase the weight of the hollow ones by adding lead airgun pellets or a cut-off nail. I prefer the alu one with screw in tip it's just a shame it uses a different size thread so you cant screw in a full size arrow head.

Hi mate, cheers for watching, i'll do that for another video, this is just standard bolts, next time i payout my patreon i'll get the more unusual bolts and also do a video on the best bolt mods as you mentioned, adjusting the tips of these bolts makes a hell of a difference too

The screw-in tip bolts are not available in the States as separate items

theres also a differen gold alu + plastic version. i have some, coming in a black blister, and one in a camo blister. that black ones were okay, have 2 rings on their tips, while that camo package arrows had 3 rings and were really lousy. that plastic is softer, thinner. one flew away aside, two bolts broke in parts when removing from aim (got a professional aim from crossbow and bow sports shop, so thats not the reason). so my tip is: beware of that cheapo bolts. they are dangerous! always wear some eye protection goggles! the beste ones are the complete alu versions. sadly, the rubber "feathers" rip off, when penetrating the aim too deep.

Thanks, that's very helpful. Just need to learn to pull bolts out without bending the shafts ! Alloy shafts should always be pulled straight back in line with the shaft. If the tip is in wood, dig it out with a knife or carefully use pliers on the tip itself. It would be a pain, but the plastic bolt heads could be drilled & pinned to secure them; or glued. The all-alloy shaft may last better with feather fletchings rather than plastics, as the feathers will spring back into shape(a little steam usually helps) & also spin stabilise it in flight over longer distances.

Great video, thanx m8, I bought 36 of those on the right, orange aluminum with removable tips and flights (along with my Crossman 80lb) and broke almost all of them with a few hours on a Styrofoam target, not happy. Bent shafts, broken flights, lost tips. So I just ordered 60, red, all plastic (ABS) screw on tip for $20, so I won't care too much if they break....it's too much fun!!

Thanks Drew, glad it help, i would say the cheapest but best bolts you can buy as the gold alu and abs ones from Anglo Arms, you can get them on ebay

Imagine you are using this device in a pinch for home defense. Imagine you’ve got a decent small broadhead on a bolt, and it hits the target. Do you want the recipient to be able to easily pull it out? Or do you want the flight to pull out or break off.... and then the shaft to easily remove from the head, thus leaving it painfully implanted in the recipient?

I've always wanted to take a full sized carbon fiber bolt and cut it down for use in a pistol crossbow just to see what it does. I've never gotten it done though 🤔
@WeaponCollector5 жыл бұрын
I have thought about it mate, but same as you not tried it yet, one thing with these new pistol crossbows is the thickness of the rifle bolts would be too thick, they have proper mechanism in these new ones like a rilfe crossbow has and will only fit a certain size bolts, the old pistol crossbows will fit a cut down rifle bolt though,will have to try it one day

Just tested the small 7.5 inch carbon bolts from my cobra R9 in my Redback and they work great, they are slightly thicker so the arrow retention spring presses a bit hard against them, but I managed to loosen it off enough so it wouldn’t effect the velocity too much. They hit HARD!

I took the anti dryfire out of my pse viper and now a cut down carbon arrow works great.

Hi WC I was thinking could you CUT some angled lines into the ABS flights ? I mean close together cuts like an actual feather ? It might be easier to smooth it out again after hitting plastic bottles or when the bolt penetrates to the Flights. just a thought.

good ideas mate,i shall look into that could would.

I've been working on this concept for a few months to enhance the flight characteristics of the bolts and just got my first mold finished to manufacture my design and after a half year or so of testing may offer them on the market for a reasonable price - unless the design gets pirated by someone who can blow them out for 1,000 for a dollar or a quid.

Are the aluminium bolts mainly solid or are they more like hollow tubes ?
@WeaponCollector4 жыл бұрын
they are all hollow mate, when i say "solid" on the video i mean "one piece" aluminium tube that's hollow

Mike how do you know which ones are the screw in ones when you order them online, do you count the ribbing on the steel bolt? it seems the screw in ones have more rib rings on the heads than the ones ont he left, and the fletching is full black not just the flights. but the tips look slightly different as well. I can't tell for sure, but are these screw tip ones? www.ebay.co.uk/itm/60-x-6-5-Pistol-Crossbow-Bolts-Aluminium-Bolts-Steel-Tips-Hunting-Arrows-New/401932141639?hash=item5d9505c447:g:o0cAAOSw3opbaTRN

Sadly i'm not sure either mate, The only way i can ever confirm they are screw in ones is some of the pics actually show the heads taken off, thats about it really mate, i can pass on a few link via email if you want

Just emailed you mate, check spam as it has links, also the anglo arms ones in the card board and plastic packets are screw in.
