Um… as a Japanese otaku guy, I would say most of the figure prices in ANY store in Akihabara is a scam. If you go online those same Miku figures can be around 1000-2000yen including the domestic shipping fee. Which means, if you are staying at the same hotel for week or longer, it would be way more cheaper to get those from online and have them sent to your hotel. There are some online stores that you can pick up your item at a convenient store too. If you can’t get things online, I would say that Book-Offs and Hobby-offs would have better price tags, but since stores in urban areas tend to have newly released stuff in store which would make them pricey, try to go to the stores in country sides. There should be some cheeper older figures. Something you should know about the figures is that if the box has “Sega” or “Taito” or “Bandai Namco” and they don’t have any see-through windows on the box, those are the figures that you can get at the arcades. And if you are good at it AND if you know which arcade to go, you can actually get them for even lower than 1000 yen. Those claw machines can be customized by each arcades and because Akihabara has tons of people attempting to get those figures, the settings on claws are F-ing insane! They intentionally are making them difficult! If you want to try claws, go to the countryside. After Covid, especially because yen is cheaper, Akihabara became more of a tourist destination than something it was in the past. These days you see more foreigners than Japanese in Akihabara. So what happens is that stores starts to raise the prices for everything since even though those prices are expensive for Japanese, they won’t be for foreigners. Just don’t get scammed please

What about Nakano Brodway? Do you recommend I go there in order to find good deals, or is it the same as Akihabara?

⁠@@gian173Yea Nakano is good. Its mostly Mandarake and other smaller independent stores, but from what I’ve seen the prices are cheaper than Akihabara. Stores in Ikebukuro also seemed a bit cheaper than Aki. But at the of the day all three areas have good deals if you are looking at the right places. Just go to all three and buy what you want or can afford!

Thank you for the video, was recently in Akihabara and this helped me find some great deals. Got a great set of Hinata and Kagayama from one of your recommendations, and the shop clerk not only got new boxes from the back he also threw in a small freebie.

6:29 I’m pretty sure there’s a name for these types of figures! There’s a specific type of figure where parts of the figure uses real fabric/ lace. I have a supersonico bunny figure with the same legging things!

Akihabara is like that tourist spot where they mainly focus on overcharging foreigners. I went there but didn’t buy anything bc stores are just so expensive and i don’t get this frj g that since I am here I have to get something.

Online hunting is better than buying in Akihabara. There are lots of good deals online in my country. I knew as I went there last April these Akihabara figures costs a fortune but great trip it unlocked my childhood dream of visiting Japan. 😊

How easy is it to find male figures, specifically ones that may be... let's say wearing more *revealing* outfits. Is it something like one guy figure for every five girl figures?

They might be sold in other specific stores I bet, but from what I saw and the places I went to there were none. I'd even say that female figures with revealing clothing are rather rarer to find if you're looking for something particular that's not from a shonen let alone male :/

Hi, Teddy👋🏻I'm definitely not an experienced buyer, but I'd like to score my first-ever figures when I visit Japan soon (childhood dream). I'm just a bit confused about Hobby-Off & Book-Off. Online, I had read that they were secondhand stores like Lashinbang and Mandarake. Is that not true? I definitely want to purchase new figures instead of secondhand ones, so other than the Tokyo Hobby Center in Akihabara, which stores would you recommend that are in central Tokyo, where I won't break the bank? I've heard of Ikebukuro and Nakano Broadway, too, but because I'm not an experienced buyer, I've no idea about the most cost-effective way to go about this😔I will also be pressed for time, so any tips would be much appreciated🙏🏻
