I've lived in Colorado for 35+ years. Been skiing for 45+. The best beginner areas imo are Loveland Valley and Granby Ranch. Ive never been to Purgatory so can't opine. Ski Cooper is also a great place for beginners. None of the destination resorts are great for beginners, especially on the weekends. Weekdays? Sure. But not when it's crowded, or early season. The great thing about Loveland Valley is everyone there is of a similar skill level (not including the instructors😊). Zero more advanced peeps cruising through and making the learners nervous. And, when you're confident on all three lifts in the Valley, you can head up to the Basin for a nominal upcharge. If you're never ready that day, you only pay for the Valley :). It's a fair deal. $200+ for a day ticket at Aspen is just not "worth it".😎

I would not call Keystone a beginner-friendly resort. While they probably have one of the better bunny slopes, the jump from the bunny slope to their "green" trails is actually very big. Schoolmarm is their 3.5 mile long green run but many sections of it really should be a blue. They have a handful of other green tails but they are of similar ability, although shorter, as Schoolmarm. Keystone is an intermediate mountain. However, they do have one of the better snow tubing hills and they have plenty of other activities for non-skiiers. Also, once you can do harder greens and blues, Keystone is great fun - especially with night skiing. If you are a beginner, go to Breck instead, especially base of peak 9. Their bunny hill is really flat and very short, just barely enough for very basic stuff on skis. However, they have a wonderful learning hill served by a platter lift that is perfect for fine tuning beginner moves and even some parallel action. Then, most of the runs off the QuickSilver chair are long, wide and relatively easy green runs - a very natural progression from the bunny/learning area. After that, peak 9 has some of the easier blues as well for those ready for the next level.
