The Lodge Card Club is a members-only social club in Round Rock, Texas (just north of Austin). With 24/7 cash games and 2+ tournaments per day, The Lodge is THE place to play poker in central Texas. The Lodge Live is streamed every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at 3PM CT.

There's a good chance you will see loads of straddles (and double straddles, and triple straddles). Players go all-in blind or play poker hands after looking at just one card. That's just what poker is like in Texas!

2nd nuts to be exact. Also if your opponent is someone who plays their sets aggressively then 5 4 is literally the only hand that makes sense for value in that first hand. The announcer saying "you can't put him on 4 5" is flat out wrong. There was also no flush draw at all which eliminates that being turned into a bluff. He also bet 4x on the river which is very polarizing. If this Chris guy has never 4x jammed on the river as a bluff then his play is completely imbalanced and easy to read if you have any history with him.

@@TMLeafsGuyI was actually playing 1/2 with Yoochan about a week or two after this hand happened (yes, he sits at the 1/2 tables sometimes just to mess around a bit) and I asked him about this hand. Basically your reasoning is exactly correct. YooChan said he had some history with Chris and said he would never be bluffing like that.

That's a bad fold though, your appointment can be doing this with 2 pair or a lower set, or he's just straight up bluffing, so in general you always gotta make that call in that situation

Did The Kid really think Xuan was 3 bet shoving with a boat there? Wouldn’t make sense, so that leaves Corvette Mike. I suppose he could have JJ or 33 (or of course 44), never seen him play before. But The Kid didn’t even think about it. Xuan easily could’ve just had an overpair, with the Mike having K10 of spades based on PF action. She raised to $400, Mike called, Kid called, Dinho shoves, Xuan calls. K10 of spades isn’t looking great but you’ve already invested $400 and pot odds wise it’s not a terrible call with only 1 player left to act behind you. Then Mike’s the one who leads out on the flop. That makes sense, because he’s protecting his hand and also wanting to get value. Very easily could one of them have a lone Ace of spades. Then him leading out on the turn still makes sense if he has K10 of spades. Xuan 3 bet shoving also makes sense if she has an overpair because she’s afraid of another spade hitting the river. And if she had a boat why would she shove and scare everyone away, especially when it’s likely someone is waiting for another spade? And of course Mike at this point can’t fold (if he has K10 of spades). And the reason you “MAY” be able to rule out him having a boat is because he led the turn. Obviously all of this is super easy to see and say in hindsight and while not in the hand. And I don’t even necessarily hate the fold. I hate the snap fold. Based on everything that happened, neither one has to have a full house at all. Sorry for being one of those “YT comment poker pros”, but man I’ve played and watched A LOT of Poker and that snap fold is definitely up there as one of the worst I’ve seen. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

First hand, check-raise 10x all-in on the river was a horrible raise size. At most, make a value raise, even a 2x min raise would have been fine. A 10x all-in check-raise is never a bluff. Basically telling Yoochan he made the straight on the river with 54, as the turn for a double gutter makes the most sense.

@@joshz6236 Not if you want to win money. If you shove on that board you're getting marginal hands to fold, so you're not getting full value. Or you shove and get called by the only hand any smart person would call with, a straight. It's better to win something than nothing. I also said it was slim, most shoves in that situation are the nuts. But sometimes they are bluffing. It's just uber rare. I would have folded trip Aces as well in that spot. Maybe I am a nit.

Of course shoving 44 into 11 is it fold for the majority of hands, but what makes it a crazy hand is, buddy had the second nuts on a safe board. Board was not even wet, It was a amazing lay down.

I know people will disagree, still, I don't care for gamblers running a hand more than once. In a garage or basement with coworkers or friends, okay, but if you are a skilled player playing with other skilled players? It is hedging bets.

i mean to be fair calling an all in shove on the river is just bluff catching most of the time, two pair one pair hands arent usually shoving there for value (maybe two pair) but even then the guy wtih AA bet almost pot, which most lower two pair hands (hes heavily blocking Ax two pairs) would prolly just call.

You're a fish, I can tell. first it's called a set, trips is when there are 2 on the board and you hold one. Second, he bets pot and gets shoved all in, the play is way too strong and he has more to lose than win. It's like Polk folding a flopped 2nd nutsstraight when his opponent went all in with the nut straight. Yeah Polk folded.
