James has openly stated he's nothing like Shawn. He specifically says it's because Shawn is selfish and narcissistic and he doesn't see himself that way. Shawn was talented in his own way, but he was also incredibly disruptive and ignorant of others. The entire show is based on him not giving a shit and then mocking Gus for being responsible and level headed.
