Oh my gosh your great! I’m entering my final semester of AGACNP school, and beginning the board / resume / interview prep process. I just discovered you and your videos, they are so helpful and informative! It sounds like you went to Emory - I actually was living in Atlanta when I went to nursing school, I graduated from Kennesaw State! But I’m living in Cleveland OH right now. Anyways, thanks soo much for your videos. I’m binging them! You are such a great resource, and in general I’ve had a lot of trouble finding good resources for the AGACNP student. I also may contact you for a mock interview. You are much appreciated!

Awe thanks Rachel! Yes, proud Emory alum here!! There aren’t a lot of AGACNPs out here and in part that’s why I started this. Congrats on the final semester, I vividly recall that light at the end of the tunnel. Hang in there!

Is it okay to bring a list of questions with you to the interview? I would totally forget everything when actually being there. Would that be acceptable or are they going to judge me for it?

No they won’t judge at all. But,if you have a typical hour long interview you likely won’t have time to get to that many questions. I advocate asking for a shadow day for that.

I’m starting my np clinical rotation in critical care. Sounds like there may have a role coming up for an NP soon and I don’t know if I’ll thrive in this setting but I would consider it it it’s a good fit. Now, I have no background in critical care, worked as a surgical nurse and have some home care and long term care. Just want to know your thoughts and if you’ve seen anyone thrive in critical care as an NP without critical care background! Thanks I’m advance for sharing your thoughts!

I haven’t for critical care but I know a trauma np who rounds in a trauma icu who only had ER experience as a nurse and he has done extremely well. Watch the interview with the trauma NP. I also had a classmate who had NO experience as a nurse. Emory let her switch from primary care/midwife to acute care as a direct entry student. She was accepted to a fellowship and is an amazing provider. It’s a steeper learning curve and it’s not for the majority of people, but it’s definitely not impossible.

I would say keep an open mind and see if it speaks to you.

Would asking what the holiday policy is be acceptable or should that be avoided as well.

I think it’s fine but better asked after an offer is made or during a shadow day. Just because there are better options. Your not going to want to ask more than ~3 questions unless you have unlimited time.
