This is a great tutorial. Some things have changed since the post of the video. But despite these differences, I was still able to follow the video and successfully publish my own website. I have very little website building experience and basic R coding experience. I did have trouble trying to use one of the hugo themes (aafu) even after some basic troubleshooting via google searching for answers. So I gave up on using that theme and used the Academic hugo theme instead. This worked well.

Nice job on the tutorial! I deployed the academic theme to netlify- seems to be working fine. Prior to this I tried 'fastpages' ( uses jupyter notebooks & python ) to deploy a simple blog to my (free) github page. That's pretty cool as well. This deployment with RStudio seems on par... Maybe slightly more difficult.. But more options. My only two issues were: 1. I couldn't find the 'config.toml' file... Just assumed it was changed to config.yaml 2. I had to set up the ssh rsa keys for github same RStudio. Cheers, Phil

Note: in case you find out that change basuURL setting in config.toml file doesn't work, please just search for config.yaml file and do exactly the same thing as Mark suggests.

I used your-identity/hugo-theme-dimension cause it looked nice... but heck, was it confusing (the README tells to set the theme to "dimension" only, didn't say about the "hugo-theme" part... and I thought the "your-identity" part was a placeholder, but no, it's really that guy's username lol) EDIT: and of course, thanks tons for the tutorial and the disclaimers about things changing, it's always unsettling when first introduced to the coders' world, but yeah, things change fast, adapt and survive ^^

Amazing tutorial! thank you very much! But I still have one question, if you don't mind answering. If I format my computer, do I need to start it all over? I am asking this, because I've set it up on my laptop, but my desktop is not recognizing it. I cannot commit to my github from my desktop. I tried to config it on the shell again, but it says: "config is not recognized as an internal or external command" I really do need to format my laptop though. Or to reinstall R (for update). Thank you very much!!!!

You should do a "pull" on your desktop first. Or, start a new project from git repository. I'm actually in the Galápagos islands now so I have no computer and barely internet. Let me know if you figured it out.

Sharif, I do talk about it in one video but not sure which one. Most of the time, the config toml file will offer it with just putting disqusShortname = "https-whatever_your_shortname_is-com.disqus.com"

Hi. Your video is very good, very useful. I have a problem: I did the steps in the video, everything fine when executing "server_site ()", it shows the theme format correctly (I use hugo_theme_cleanwhite), but when executing "build_site ()" the files in the "public" folder do not contain this format. How can i fix this? I need to share these results with people who do not use Rstudio and can open the html without problems I speak Spanish and I use google translator :-) Thank you.

I found the answer to my question. here: stackoverflow.com/questions/54972527/bad-rendering-of-the-local-index-html-from-public-folder-using-hugo that way you can export the entire web page to the "pubic" folder without losing the css format. Try it. now i have a new problem. In the "public" folder the images and graphics generated by gglpot or highcarts do not appear. I see inside the html and the reference to folder "images" inside "public" is not correct. Do you know how I can solve this? Thanks for this nice overview. I successfully created the site julia-sta304-assignment1.netlify.app/ but failed to deploy the changes in 2015-7-23-r-markdown.rmd file. Initially I did mistake and received from netlify the message Invalid filename '2015/07/23/sta304-julias-assignment#1/index.html'. After correction and removing wrong symbol #, I committed the new file 2015/07/23/sta304-julias-assignment1 to git repository, but netlify still cannot deploy indicating the same wrong message. I deleted the old file in RStudio and committed to Git this deletion, but the old file is still staying in Github. Very tricky situation!

The issue with file changes commitment to Github is solved. I didn't do anything special, simply repeated the steps for commitment push couple times. The site now is alive sta457-timeseries.netlify.app/. I am going to your next lessons to understand how to delete and add new posts. Today I had problem with Addins and revealed that devtools::install_github('rstudio/blogdown') command is required to add Blogdown items to Addins list.
