In this video, is we look back at the Tamiya Monster trucks that started it all. Lunchbox, Pumpkin, Monster Beetle & then the true goliaths! The Super Clod Buster, TXT-1Extream, TXT-2, Juggernaut 1&2. We then pitch the mighty Super Clod Buster against the formidable TXT-2 Agrios to see if the Clod still has what it takes to be the King of the Tamiya Monster Trucks.

That got me emotional also, heartfelt story ,The Frog was the first rc car i ever saw at age 12 in 1984 , i wanted it so bad but couldn't afford it , got a Hornet instead after saving my money for a year and ended up painting pink and white in honour of the Frog 😂 .

Shout out to my 22 year old King Blackfoot 😎 What a truck! That ORV chassis was basically the ultimate version, and it still performs very well. Put some bearings, oil dampers on and a Sport Tuned motor. It feels like something totally different now😅 Performance is to a whole new level😁👍🏻 Love from South Africa

Awesome Video. Took me back to when I was a kid. I got a Blackfoot in 1987. I remember the Clod Buster when they came out. I was like..WTH. Two motors, and 8 shocks. And it seemed sooooooo expensive to me back then as a 8th grader. Thanks for taking me back to when I was a kid. Cheers from Oregon, USA

Back in the amazin 80's when I was a youngster this guy at our beach campground had I'd say four or five ClodBusters. All decked out one had a grave digger body. I would drive my Tyco Turbo hopper over to his campsite and he would let me run one of those monsters. Parents couldn't afford to buy me one but they tried. Fast-forward 25 years I finally bought a Clod lol. Point being this video flooded back those memories lol.

As a owner of 20+ Clodbusters the Clodbuster is definitely my favorite. I love the axles under the Juggernaut 1&2, TXT 1&2 and the Agrios trucks. Those axles reminds me of the axles of the stage 1 and 2 monster trucks.

hello Mike! Could you please share what are some of the most important upgrades to a Clod? I am a new Clod owner! I usually trail drive my Tamiya monsters, so definitely not racing them. :) Thank you very much!
@mikemiller9023
@mikemiller9023 3 жыл бұрын
@@oliboli It all depends on how much you want to spend and whether or not you're wanting to keep your chassis stock (plastic) or if you're willing to upgrade it to one of the available carbon fiber or aluminum models. Once you've made that decision, it's time to decide what you want to use to power it with. Power can be supplied by brushed or brushless motors and an appropriate speed control (or two). Then you need a servo or two for steering to go along with that, depending on whether or not you want to keep four-wheel steering. And you'll probably want to upgrade your shocks as well, and those should be chosen to match your chassis and desired ride height and terrain. Then you may want to upgrade your wheels and tires also. Now that mine is pretty much done, it's large enough that it almost doesn't fit on the outside unit for my home A/C, if that gives you some idea of just how much upgrading has been done. I need to take some measurements, but it's definitely no little toy anymore. I had to have shelves custom-made to hold it in my office because it wouldn't fit on a shelf that was large enough for my Wraith to sit on. Lol! I hope that helps a bit.
@oliboli

@@mikemiller9023 Ohh wow! :O that is way more complex that I'd thought first! Soo, I would stick to the original chassis for now. I already have a Quicrun880 from Hobbywing, but silver cans are just fine for what I use it for. The steering and suspension I would definitely swap to something better, I already own a few Savöx servos. I usually do trail walks with friends where I take my monster trucks. So, suspension and stability would be key. Would that require a change to a custom chassis? Also, I am running my trucks on 2s lipos. Oh, and what brands/manufacturers are we looking at when it comes to modifications? Anyway, thank you very much for the quick response! :)
@mikemiller9023
@mikemiller9023 3 жыл бұрын
@@oliboli It can definitely get complicated quickly, unfortunately. But it's all a matter of how much you want to spend, and what you want to see performance-wise out of it. I'd go with the high-torque Savox servos for steering, and stick with low-turn silver can motors with your Hobbywing 880. That should be fine to get it moving. The only problem with the stock chassis is that it's such a short wheelbase and that makes it a bit wobbly. If you can deal with that, stick with it for now and just upgrade your shocks to larger piston oil-filled unit and you should be fine for the time being. When it comes to upgrading, there are a few manufacturers and most of them aren't too bad. You can also make a lot of things yourself, if you're handy enough and use strong enough materials. Check out some of the Clodbuster groups on Facebook to get some suggestions and links to current chassis that people are running. I've only got my one Clod, but there are others out there who have other chassis than just mine, and they might have more informed opinions than I do on what chassis is best.

I have a TXT-1 and recently upgraded the electronics to a single 3660 2650kv brushless set up on 2s or 3s. When I built it 15 years ago I added some aluminum upgrades from New Era and RC4WD. These upgrades plus using Traxxas E-Revo shafts for the drive shafts has made for a crazy reliable truck. The E-Revo shafts are usually the weak link, which is great as they are pretty cheap to get the individual parts to repair the shaft and they are much easier to source than the Tamiya parts. And they are much easier to swap out.

Wanna see what the TXT-2 can actually do? Slap in one 3670 sensored 1/8 8.5t motor, or a 3150kv Spektrum 3660, with a 17t pinion and 3s. Single 1/8 scale 100mm shocks allaround.LOCK the rear steering. Seeing a TXT-2 kinda-sorta 'floating' over terrain at a ridiculous speed never gets old. Stock-up on gearbox top-bits. They'll break with alarming regularity, even with a little support-plate under the ballends.. Dunno why.. 😅(just kidding. 45km/h to 50km/h is about the max the TXT can survive off-road. Things start to break very, VERY often above that. It's a scale-monstertruck after all, NOT just a buggy with a truck body and oversized tires like, say, the MAXX and Kraton and such))

I have a Clodbuster that’s semi modified, and a Juggernaut that I’m still putting together, debating if I should restore it or modify it with TXT-2 like suspension. Anyway, more people uses the Clod for racing due to the lack or torque twist when launching. It’ll go straighter than a shaft driven monster truck. The TXT-1 uses cantilevers for suspension like its baby brother TLT-1, which I have 2 of.

I've had a juggernaut 2 under my bed for the last 10 years and for the last 20 years just like my other RC cars I had when I was a kid, its been completely ignored and sort of pushed to the top shelf as it were like Wheezy in Toy Story. I recently decided to move so had to dig it out to sell it. However I then started to look at it and memories just started coming back to me like how when I was about 15 staying up until 4am to finish building it, it was such a cool thing to unbox xmas time. Unfortunately at stock its a bit of a crap RC car. As was said in the video about the Clod it has a single servo to handle the steering which makes it very vague as I recall and the suspension doesn't work that well really. Compared to the Midnight Pumpkin which I had when I was 3 or 4 (and also the Tyco Mutator that I had) the Jug just wasn't that much fun or engaging to me to drive out on the cul-de-sac I grew up in. I was going to sell the Jug, they fetch good prices but I made the fatal mistake of going searching on here for RC cars and now having rediscovered these things from my childhood I am now hooked again and despite its flaws I am yearning for a Clod now; it's utterly iconic and timeless as an RC car. The Jug in the meantime is going to get the TLC it deserves, a good clean and a rubbing down of the body and respray. I'm landed to have found the stickers for it on MCI. I'm also pretty desperate to buy a lunchbox, Konghead (I think this is a future classic) and Monster Beatle to name a few of the Tamiya ones (Now I've seen the TXT-1 because of this video that looks pretty tasty too, haha ). But ultimately I'm hunting down a Losi LMT, a Traxxas maxx and a HPI Savage because Nitro rocks too. And to think I'd forgotten about all this. Some people have a midlife crises by buying a Porsche I think mine is going to be RC cars :).

Great video... Did you extend the wheelbase on your Clod? It looks longer than the stock version, I think. Thanks for sharing! 💯💯💯💯💯

Nice video with a true statement. But i guess, "better" is the wrong description for the Clod. Right out of the box it runs like crap, very true. But if you look how long it's been produced and still one gets every spare part is another story. Try to get parts for the Juggernaut, Txt 1 or 2, happy birthday i will say. Not to mention how many aftermarket parts are available for the Clod. So it has reached cult status while it runs a bit poorer and let me say specific.

Oh yeah. Clodbuster builder here .. torque twist .. is the key factor.. but can the TXT torque hold like the all mighty…Clod.. hmm 🤔 that’s to be fought out .

Have the original Clod & bullhead as far the juggernaut was junk had one . Clodzilla kit, just buy the Redcat ground pounder that is kinda rare but was aluminum dual plate Clodzilla chassis they used . Now Xmaxx & Cen Reeper are my go two's 1/5th & 1/7 th scale M.T's, Tamiya's are my classics 👌

I feel like that was quite a diplomatic conclusion Gav. As someone who doesn't have a relationship with the Clod from childhood (I had a Midnight Pumpkin) I can't see why you wouldn't go for the TXT2. Standard, with no money spent it's quicker than a Clod with a fair bit of cash put into it... There's no point trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear! Especially if the Clod doesn't even steer as standard. We all love vintage, but unless you had one as a kid and want to get back that same feeling? Nah. On another note could you please possibly cover some of the TA01 and TA02 Rally/Road cars please? Particularly the Celica GT 4 rally and Escort Cosworth? Manta ray gearboxes just like a Top Force, but with slightly more road biassed underpinnings, and realistic scale shells.

I had a Juggernaut and now I wished that I never got rid of it. Gonna have to hunt down another that's at a reasonable price.

Now you have a few trucks with 4 wheel steering is it worth investing in a Flysky GT5? It has a crawl mode which allows you to switch between crab steer, no rear steer and conventional 4 wheel steer from the handset.

I know the Agrios is a better starting point, but it doesn't stir any excitement from a look standpoint. Whereas the Clodbuster looks awesome when watching the jump footage at the end. My vote would be for the Clod!

The txt2 tires look about the same size as the juggernaut tires. I wonder if that has something to with why they used them instead of the clod tires like the txt1
