Funnest truck ever!!!!! My second used to be a massive USA-1 and my third choice was Super Clod Buster (never had one). I have never seen the USA-1 truck again since the late 80’s.

As the owner of a modified Clod, I have to agree with your assessment completely. I shudder to think about how much I have in mine, but it's worth every penny for the smiles I get every time I take it out and enjoy it.

hello Mike! Could you please share what are some of the most important upgrades to a Clod? I am a new Clod owner! I usually trail drive my Tamiya monsters, so definitely not racing them. :) Thank you very much!
@mikemiller90233 жыл бұрын
@@oliboli It all depends on how much you want to spend and whether or not you're wanting to keep your chassis stock (plastic) or if you're willing to upgrade it to one of the available carbon fiber or aluminum models. Once you've made that decision, it's time to decide what you want to use to power it with. Power can be supplied by brushed or brushless motors and an appropriate speed control (or two). Then you need a servo or two for steering to go along with that, depending on whether or not you want to keep four-wheel steering. And you'll probably want to upgrade your shocks as well, and those should be chosen to match your chassis and desired ride height and terrain. Then you may want to upgrade your wheels and tires also. Now that mine is pretty much done, it's large enough that it almost doesn't fit on the outside unit for my home A/C, if that gives you some idea of just how much upgrading has been done. I need to take some measurements, but it's definitely no little toy anymore. I had to have shelves custom-made to hold it in my office because it wouldn't fit on a shelf that was large enough for my Wraith to sit on. Lol! I hope that helps a bit.
@oliboli3 жыл бұрын
@@mikemiller9023 Ohh wow! :O that is way more complex that I'd thought first! Soo, I would stick to the original chassis for now. I already have a Quicrun880 from Hobbywing, but silver cans are just fine for what I use it for. The steering and suspension I would definitely swap to something better, I already own a few Savöx servos. I usually do trail walks with friends where I take my monster trucks. So, suspension and stability would be key. Would that require a change to a custom chassis? Also, I am running my trucks on 2s lipos. Oh, and what brands/manufacturers are we looking at when it comes to modifications? Anyway, thank you very much for the quick response! :)
@mikemiller90233 жыл бұрын
@@oliboli It can definitely get complicated quickly, unfortunately. But it's all a matter of how much you want to spend, and what you want to see performance-wise out of it. I'd go with the high-torque Savox servos for steering, and stick with low-turn silver can motors with your Hobbywing 880. That should be fine to get it moving. The only problem with the stock chassis is that it's such a short wheelbase and that makes it a bit wobbly. If you can deal with that, stick with it for now and just upgrade your shocks to larger piston oil-filled unit and you should be fine for the time being. When it comes to upgrading, there are a few manufacturers and most of them aren't too bad. You can also make a lot of things yourself, if you're handy enough and use strong enough materials. Check out some of the Clodbuster groups on Facebook to get some suggestions and links to current chassis that people are running. I've only got my one Clod, but there are others out there who have other chassis than just mine, and they might have more informed opinions than I do on what chassis is best.

I have a TXT-1 and recently upgraded the electronics to a single 3660 2650kv brushless set up on 2s or 3s. When I built it 15 years ago I added some aluminum upgrades from New Era and RC4WD. These upgrades plus using Traxxas E-Revo shafts for the drive shafts has made for a crazy reliable truck. The E-Revo shafts are usually the weak link, which is great as they are pretty cheap to get the individual parts to repair the shaft and they are much easier to source than the Tamiya parts. And they are much easier to swap out.

I have a Clodbuster that’s semi modified, and a Juggernaut that I’m still putting together, debating if I should restore it or modify it with TXT-2 like suspension. I feel like that was quite a diplomatic conclusion Gav. As someone who doesn't have a relationship with the Clod from childhood (I had a Midnight Pumpkin) I can't see why you wouldn't go for the TXT2. Standard, with no money spent it's quicker than a Clod with a fair bit of cash put into it... There's no point trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear! Especially if the Clod doesn't even steer as standard. We all love vintage, but unless you had one as a kid and want to get back that same feeling? Nah. On another note could you please possibly cover some of the TA01 and TA02 Rally/Road cars please? Particularly the Celica GT 4 rally and Escort Cosworth? Manta ray gearboxes just like a Top Force, but with slightly more road biassed underpinnings, and realistic scale shells.

Wanna see what the TXT-2 can actually do? Slap in one 3670 sensored 1/8 8.5t motor, or a 3150kv Spektrum 3660, with a 17t pinion and 3s. Single 1/8 scale 100mm shocks allaround.LOCK the rear steering. Seeing a TXT-2 kinda-sorta 'floating' over terrain at a ridiculous speed never gets old. Stock-up on gearbox top-bits. They'll break with alarming regularity, even with a little support-plate under the ballends.. Dunno why.. 😅(just kidding. 45km/h to 50km/h is about the max the TXT can survive off-road. Things start to break very, VERY often above that. It's a scale-monstertruck after all, NOT just a buggy with a truck body and oversized tires like, say, the MAXX and Kraton and such))
