It's never too early to start in uk thrift shops are called charity shops as alot of the money tends to go to charity and well theres been multiple occasions where we found one with a synthesizer for cheap in there maybe check a thrift shop or even an electronics junkyard might have one more often than not theres a lot of people throw them away thinking they don't work when there's probably one small issue that's easily fixed or they just get a new one and rather than give the old one to someone they waste it and throw it away! good look hunting synth is easier to start on compared to piano cause the keys are lighter (good if you have arthritis or something like that) best thing is anything you learn on synth will translate to piano, theres no such thing as can and can't do, talent is a measure of how quickly you pick up on it, I just needed confidence and I met some pianists who played with me and it took a few years as I was stuck in negative depressing songs for a while but I finally broke out and began being able to play by ear, I have perfect pitch but it doesn't always help the keys and where they are located need to be muscle memory so regardless of good or bad at learning it in the beginning it may take longer or shorter but you can eventually make it to the same skill level if your dedicated, talent has little to do with that it's only how quick you are at doing it, it sounds tedious but "if you give up because your bad at it you will always be bad at it getting good at it comes from sticking to it" thats what I learned off a known youtube dancer! then you can join the skilled players and get mad whenever someone calls you talented and ignorantly doesn't account the time you put in, but mainly happy I like doing it as a hobby because it makes people smile when you play I got heckled when I played at first it almost knocked my confidence but my pianist friend reminded me he's played for 10 yrs and he had the same when he started! If you plan to do piano in public it's good to have a "f^&* what other people say mentality when starting out" just be careful slamming down on the pianos in shopping centres, train stations and airports they don't like it and it often breaks their keys which why I often went for softer songs!
