Hi. The Hokuriku Arch Pass is best if you plan to stop off at cities along the arched route, such as Fukui, Kanazawa, and Nagano. We have a separate video with more details about this pass: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJClnYl8Ys2Srs0 Otherwise, you could take the Tokaido Shinkansen (which is not included in the Hokuriku Arch Pass) directly from Shin-Osaka back to Tokyo. The best way to visit Mt. Fuji is as a side trip from Tokyo. You might want to consider the Tokyo Wide Pass, which covers transportation to Mt Fuji and other areas around Tokyo. Here's our affiliate link: geni.us/tokyowidepass Or another option is the Mt. Fuji Pass, which I explain in this separate video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4eqdY2klsuhnqM

Hey Kensho, your channel has been invaluable in planning my trip! Wonder if you could help me decide on the pass or not, if it could be useful for us? And any general advice for me on how to plan travel for this itinerary please 🙂 6th-10th - Tokyo 10th-14th - Kyoto 14th-16th - Osaka 16th-18th - Kanazawa 18th-21st - Tokyo Hokuriku pass could work if we reduce our days in Kyoto/osaka/kanazawa to be completed in 6 nights instead of the 8 nights we have currently, but I fear we will packing too much in those days? I’m also confused around the Hokuriku Pass trains being slower or taking longer for the same journeys? For example how much longer would Tokyo-Kyoto journey be than the Tokaido bullet? Any help much appreciated or suggestions for how to plan travel! Thanks 🙂
@KenshoQuest2 ай бұрын
Hi, probably no pass in your case... Unless as you say you can pack in less during your time in the Hokuriku region. Yes, the Hokuriku Arch Pass will be slower but only because you are meant to stop along the way. Also because the shinkansen only goes as far as Tsuruga Station where you will need to change to the thunderbird express to get to Kyoto. So it's not that much slower in your case since you plan to also stay in Kanazawa. Maybe an 1.5 hours longer total from Kanazawa to Kyoto. It depends on when you can catch your connecting train to Kyoto from Tsuruga On your way back to Tokyo take the Tokaido Shinkansen from Osaka, it will take about 3 hrs.

Question: planning to go to Fukui, wanting to catch the bus from the Fukui Station to the Dinosaur Museum in the morning, then from there, is it easy and workable to use the GO app and get a taxi to Echizen Daibutsu Great Buddha? Then, when we have finished, can we then use the app again to get a taxi from there back to the Dinosaur Museum where we will spend the afternoon, then return to Fukui Station by bus? Do taxis go out that far? Would it just be easier to get a taxi direct to Echizen Daibutsu from Fukui Station? Or too long of a trip and cost too much? I think there is public transport to Echizen Daibutsu, a bus, but it is not very frequent and we would have to walk a fair distance. We will be there in January, so walking in snow would not be our preference. We don't wish to hire a car and drive. Any advice will be appreciated. TYIA.
@KenshoQuest4 ай бұрын
Hi, I just checked on the Go App and getting to the dinosaur museum wont be a problem but you might have difficulty with availability to get you to Daibutsu and back to the Museum. So going directly to Daibustsu will be easier but the cost could be over $50 USD depending on traffic. It is doable. while we haven't used a taxi for this route we have taken taxis to remote places without a problem. I hope this helps.

Whats your thinking on this, too much to do? Or 14 day JR is the easy option? Thanks in advance
@KenshoQuest2 ай бұрын
Hi the 14-day whole JR Pass would be the easier option and cover more forms of transportation. However, you might be able to save by choosing the two pass you mentioned. We don't recommend the Tokyo Wide pass unless you know you will be going places like Nikko and Mt Fuji. All is possible within the 18 days. The best advice we can give you is to not overfill your days as it always takes longer to get places and enjoy them.

Hi, if you want to use the pass from Kanazawa then you might be interested in the JR West All Area Pass which will cover from Kanazawa to Hiroshima and actually as far south as Hakata. However, with this pass as well as the Sanyo one you mentioned does not include the Tokaido shinkansen, which means you cannot rid this train from Kyoto to Osaka.. You can only book your tickets once you have purchased your pass, which is one month before your travel date. I don't think you will have too much trouble getting reserved seats as long as you don't travel during a holiday and/or during commute hours.

Also, please check the costs of individual trips because you may not even get your money's worth by use the Hokuriku Arch Pass. Hi. We still recommend buying individual Shinkansen tickets. The JR Pass does not offer a cost savings for Tokyo - Osaka -Kyoto - Nara. It still won't save you money even if you return to Tokyo within 7 days. Here's our video explaining whether the JR Pass is worth it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqTVi6OMjq1gotU @@huyt6922

@@KenshoQuest Hello Kensho, thank you so much for your advice as we have been in Tokyo since Monday & we only take JR Line 1 time yesterday. All the rest we take all the subway line & the cost would be cheaper than JR Pass. The Suica is very shorted supply now - we found it at the Tokyo Station which is biggest train station in Tokyo as I believe. Try to purchase the Suica card but it is quite confusing so we decide continue to purchase single ticke by Cash.😁

Seen your Video 6 hours to late 😭 The price is not worth it anymore, when you only travel one direction 😕

You can travel both directions with the Hokuriku Arch Pass. You can go back and forth as many times as you want, as long as you stay on the designated route. Here’s our Guide to the Hokuriku Arch Pass: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJClnYl8Ys2Srs0si=dSttwUSrIfUUJaMy
