Thanks for the review I have had mine for about 4 years easy to update firmware and one of the cool features is that you can use 2 transmitters. Meaning you can switch guitars effortlessly just turn the other transmitter off.You cannot use two at the same time

I tried the G10S, which isn't cheap mind you, and it cut out like crazy. This wasn't even in a gig, just at my desk. I then got the newer versions of this, GLXD16+. Connection is super solid, I love it. I think I should have gone with the non pedal version given I play at home, but it's still nice to have a tuner, which I read is quite good on this unit. New unit uses USB C, which makes me very happy, I would hate to see micro USB on this. I wish they could fit this performance in a transmitter shaped like the GT10II. The new antenna design on the pack is better thankfully. My guitar plug is straight. I think the lag went up on the new unit but I hear it fine and it gained 2.4 and 5.8!

At 7:07 you mention that you can't hear any difference between this wireless and a cable being plugged in. My experience is quite different however. This unit dramatically increased the high frequencies for me. So much so that I've had to go through every preset on my Helix (might be different for analog pedals) and really re-tweak everything. Note: I'm using a short 4" patch cable to go into the Helix from the GLXD16 floor receiver so I have lost a lot of cable capacitance, especially compared to usually using a 20" cable from my guitar. One thing I will try soon is running a 10' or 20' cable from the receiver into the Helix and see if that adds that capacitance quality back or not.

The "proprietary" plug is actually an industry standard, called TA4 (or TQG as a specific brand label (think "Xerox")). It is essentially the mini-XLR standard. It's used a LOT in professional wireless systems across multiple vendors. Replacement cables are easy to obtain, and not that expensive (at least here in the US). Professional wireless tends to use TA4, LEMO3 (more expensive, but smaller/more watertight) and more recently MicroDot which allows you to put an adapter on the end (such as MicroDot to TA4) to adapt your cable to whichever connector your system uses. You typically only see 3.5mm connectors in consumer-grade wireless systems.
@michaelseebass2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I allready noticed (only after making the video), that its actually "Mini XLR", but I wasn't aware that its so commonly used in professional grade equipment. I pretty miuch only used consumer-grade wireless systems before.

@InfiniteRiffs Жыл бұрын
I can attest that this unit has been phenomenal. I’ve had it for a number of years. Only issue I had was the transmitter cable started cutting out about two weeks ago. Bought a new one and seems to work again. This unit is the only one that I found that was pedalboard mounted and has tuner. Unfortunately it’s discontinued. Why would they stop making such a great unit? And the used market is ridiculously expensive. Probably because they are discontinued.
@michaelseebass Жыл бұрын
Agreed. I kind of hope they make a follow up.

@@michaelseebass yeah me too. The GLXD is a Great unit. I wanted to purchase another one for a back up.
@devlinjones Жыл бұрын
I talked to a Shure rep about why this unit was discontinued, since I use the GLXD for wireless mics and have the frequency manager. The reason the GLXD units got discontinued was do to supply chain issues for some components so Shure decided to discontinue them rather than having them in perpetual back order, he said they may come back to market in the future, if the supply chain improves, which I hope they do. To add if you go check a site like Sweetwater you can see the GLXD units are currently labeled new release as GLXD+, I believe they have some new antenna improvements over the previous version, so maybe the supply chain issues have been solved or are soon to be resolved.

I have and enjoy using the glxd system. The shure ta4f cable is commonly available and easy to repair if it is mistreated. The rubber cover on all of my glxd bodypacks fell off a long time ago and i am very careful with all my gear. Just not a sturdy piece or design. Overall I am pleased with my glxd stuff, great video...

I’ve used it for years. Overall I liked it. But I have had many drop outs and the last year or so there was at least a drop out every time I used it. As a bass player who doesn’t use any pedals this is the perfect setup - a tuner and wireless system all in one. I got a solid 5 or 6 years out of it and it worked most of the time, but it was not perfect. Battery life was always great and tuning pedal was very precise, much better than the sennheiser tuning pedal/wireless system. I bought the new GLXD+ unit with 5ghz recently and hopefully it won’t have the drop outs.

Thanks for the review! already bought it two days ago, but i met some noticeable latency, is there any troubleshoot?
@michaelseebass2 жыл бұрын
Hey there, sorry to hear you experience issues. I would sugggest trying different wifi channels. Also try to remove things from your signal chain to isolate the problem, maybe something else is introducing latency. I never heard anything about latency being an issue with this and also haven't experienced it myself, so it would make sure if it is really coming from the GLXD.

Does it have input? If your battery dies ? Do you have to unplug it to get your guitar in to the chain ?
@michaelseebass2 жыл бұрын
There is no separate input, if the battery dies you need to plugin a cable to the next thing in your signal chain.
@kimberlyjacobsen41482 жыл бұрын
@@michaelseebass thanks for the reply. So you would need a extra tuner for that occasion. Or I’ll just have to be not stupid. And charge the battery 😉
@michaelseebass2 жыл бұрын
@@kimberlyjacobsen4148You are welcome! Good point, if you use this as your tuner and the battery dies, you are without a tuner. But then again (at least for me), switching to a cable would be something I consider an "emergency" event. I basically keep a cable somewhere near to me, but I have not needed it so far. When the battery goes below half loaded, I recharge before I play. And recharging is fairly quick, so I never had issues with that.
