I disagree. He was selling a good product. Yes, his selling skills were amazing, however even he admitted himself that it all goes down to the product. He would not last selling a cheep Chinese crap even with the same selling method. The combination of both is a key: personality and product.

this guy was amazing. I used to see him near my office in Manhattan. One day he would sell vegetable peelers, the next day it would be children's books. It was always the same reaction. he would draw a huge crowd and then people would just start buying. I saw a short news story about his life on CBS. He was actually quite well off financially, living in a beautiful place near Park Ave (and help paying for his children / grand children's college educations). He always worked for himself selling items on the street, for decades.

And speaking from experience: All the peelers I ever owned were rusty old "heirlooms" or weird ceramic ones that don't work right. Anybody got a link to that peeler?

I worked in a restaurant 12 years ago right off union square. He would come in periodically for dinner with his daughter. Hi s natural speaking voice didn't exist. He was perpetually horse. Kieran Rogers A salesman is not there to entertain. His product being pushed is why he is there, If his sales pitch is boring so shall his sales be. But a true sales person is an entertainer because to get people to buy your product they have to buy you.. And for them to buy into you you have to believe in your product. This man stood by his product and from what i can see it is worth every penny.. Hell i want one now.. My peeler sucks. I have the one from the .99 cents store.

@reece ..I think the whole point is that it doesn't come down to whether the product you're selling is shit or not, but the way in which you're selling it and your goal is to just sell - if it sucks, well your loss, but the seller did his job by convincing you. The best salesman in the world can sell bags of fresh air to people in China when in truth, it could just be hoax but how would they know that? It comes down to how the seller draws people in and how he sells the product, that's the art of good salesmanship.

I remember this gentleman all so well. He really did sell the best machine as he called it. I bought one from him over 10 years ago, and it still works perfectly! I’ve bought other peelers, and none of them are as good or as versatile as his. Whenever I return home to New York and go to the Union Square Market on Saturdays, his presence is truly missed. RIP Joe!

@TactlessGuy

ABW941 A big reason why I'm there on the political compass is because I consider religion to be completely irrelevant and think large businesses need regulations in a realistic society.
