You start shooting, killing everyone but him, and he escapes through a secret vent. You go down to where it should lead, and find him being chased by a giant necromorph, when he proceeds to jump onto your ship, kill you and the necromorph at the same time, and jump back through another window unscathed.

I didn't think about this at first but every faction of bad guy is comin' down on Isaac in this scene. The Unitologists get a hold of him, ready to put him on ice only to be rescued(?) by EarthGov trying to turn him into Swiss cheese. Which he escapes by diving into a hole and right into the lap of one of the scariest necromorphs ever and they both buy a ticket to the gunship which Isaac blows up despite the Tormentor tryin' REAL HARD to kill him and ends up flying through a window that's meant to stand up to space. And if you trip at the finish line, you get the box art from Dead Space 1, what a treat.

I love the sound design in space during these scenes. you can hear these dampened sounds of metal clashing. which is somewhat realistic, because your suit can transfer vibrations which you can hear as sound. dead space 2 was really the pinnacle of the dead space series. some might disagree, but imo it just generally beats dead space 1 in every aspect. if you disagree, that's fine. Dead Space 1 is also a great game and I enjoyed it nearly as much as 2, but dead space 2 just is such an improvement to me in gameplay that it beats the first one.

1 is more tense generally but 2 is more effectively scary, IMO. Despite being more action focused, 2 somehow feels more actually scary. I think part of it is the more civilian setting, but also some of the enemy/encounter designs and the nightmare sequences.

I didn`t mind how Isaac got trounced all the time, but everybody else you ever meet dies, and even the select few you should be able to help you can`t. It makes the plotarmor far too glaringly obvious,just being able to save just 1 or 2 non-plot important people would have helped incredibly with that.

God damn they need to make that Dead Space 2 remake. The first one proved they absolutely have what it takes. That, or at least port DS2 to PS5 and Series X. Honestly, I might prefer that. Dead Space 2 is such a tightly directed and perfectly paced rollercoaster the whole way through, and if they do make the remake of it, I really hope they realize that about it and don't change quite as much. The added side missions and exploration of the Ishimura in DS1 remake was perfect for that game, because that's how that game is structured. Dead Space 2 is a balls-to-the-wall madhouse of event after event, with seamless travel and transitions between locations that makes you say "how the fuck did they do that?" I honestly hope they mostly just improve the visuals, feel of combat, enemy AI, etc, and not mess with the overall structure of it... almost everything about Dead Space 2 is already perfect as is. Edit: ok I'm now watching the video, seeing some of this stuff for the first time in a while... they could definitely do what they did with the first remake and change some of the dialogue/character movements/acting moments. Issac is perfect throughout, that definitely doesn't need to change, and I know she's a Unitologist, and they're evil as fuck, but Dana could use a little less supervillain and more "blind, fervent believer that thinks they're doing God's work, and they're making positive change for everyone." Dana is a great red-herring for the beginning chapters, and she deserves what she quickly gets, but that line delivery is over the top villainous, she seems to know how evil she is and is delighting in it... cult members/leaders are much scarier when they come to you with some false air of compassion, because they genuinely think they're giving you something you need. Something like having her say "I'm sorry we tricked you, but you'll see: you are here to serve a great purpose, take pride in that Issac", instead of "mwahaha, there was no cure fool, TAKE HIM AWAY... but first, inexplicably don't move after that order, as I turn around villainously for one last evilll line." The overall events of the scene, how it starts, and where it goes, all should stay the same: but make those changes to Dana, and I think it would work even better for the remake. Also, her screaming "NOOOOO", reaching out towards the gunship when the shooting has already started and depressurized the room... that's just bad, and made me laugh, somehow I never noticed it until now lol. To make it more... visceral, if you will (see what I did there 👀), she should probably just get instantly mulched by the gunfire in the silent vacuum of space. I know I'm not a director, nowhere near an expert on this stuff, but I know movies and games, I know Dead Space, and I know what works for me and others I've talked to, and I think these kinds of changes throughout moments like this in a Dead Space 2 remake would make it an even more breathtaking ride than the original. Motive and EA, please consult/hire me, a random, opinionated KZbin commenter, I will make the BEST dead space 2 remake I can. 👍
