If you are British, consider Irish citizenship - might be the easiest or cheapest route to an EU passport, providing you want to live in Ireland? A UK citizen needs no permissions to live and work in Ireland, including access to voting, social security and healthcare rights - vice versa for Irish citizens in the UK. I believe it is 5 years within 9 years of residency then required for citizenship by naturalisation. If it’s just a residency option you want for emergencies, you already have it. The Common Travel Arrangement has been around for a long time and survived Brexit without trouble.

I’m British 🇬🇧 & Irish 🇮🇪, as is my wife & my children. Very happy with this combo for now. Will be glad to explore an additional citizenship in future, perhaps Caribbean.

As others have pointed out, Spain doesn't recognise Spanish and UK dual-citizenship. So that's a non-starter. Ireland would've been a better choice.

Anyone who wants a Spanish citizenship is better off getting almost any Latin American passport first and THEN using their LatAm citizenship to get the their Spanish citizenship in 2 years. I think Argentine citizenship can be obtained in 2-3 years. Mexican in 5

Would always be reluctant to procure a passport that you then can't renounce (Argentinian) especially considering a turbulent political environment and an unstable economy :)

Spain requires UK citizens who naturalise to promise they'll renounce their UK citizenship.

One thing you failed to take into consideration is that a lot of British people DON'T WANT TO BE A PART OF THE EU HENCE WHY THEY VOTED TO LEAVE IN THE FIRST PLACE. Thanks.

Half of the British people wanted to be part of the EU. Thanks

@@ivanwronsky - Less than half, hence why BREXIT happened. And that was after years of propaganda from the media and government, as well as threats/pressure from the USA and EU.

That's a little different than aquiring citizenship in multiple countries. Having options is another way to combat the EU tyranny.

@@dialecticalmonist3405 - Not if getting a second citizenship means getting an EU passport. You're directly submitting to their tyranny.

Portugal citizenship only takes 5 years but Spain is 10 years. Double the time and Spain has a wealth tax.

With the way the EU is headed I’d only want to be there for a short holiday … not to live or work there, and certainly not be taxed there.

as Arnie once said, "I'll be back!" It would be much easier to wait until the UK rejoins the European Union rather than just wait for naturalization in Spain because the rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain.
