Intro:
I’ve tested more than 75 smartwatches over the last 2 years, some of which cost as little as 20 dollars, whereas others set me back 1000 dollars. In this video we are going to use objective measurements to see which of these watches performed best at different price points, to help you decide which watch is best for you. I will particularly focus on the sports and health tracking features of each of these watches; so let’s take a look at those results!
In this video I will show you which smartwatches and health trackers performed best in my testing, also taking into account the prices of the different watches. So, whether you are looking for a premium smartwatch, or you have a small budget, this video will help you make your decision. Now, I will spend most of the video looking at the heart rate accuracy and sleep tracking performance; but I will also discuss some other features, like GPS tracking, step counting and general health tracking. But, let’s start by looking at the heart rate tracking accuracy, since this is important for most people.
I would only buy the Whoop Strap if money isn’t an issue, and I want my aim is to get a general solid health and fitness tracker. On the other hand, if I was mostly interested in just the sleep stage and heart rate tracking, I would buy an Apple Watch. My favorite Apple Watch is the Apple Watch Ultra, given its longer battery life and bigger screen. However, the Apple Watch SE is good enough for the majority of people, and this is much much cheaper. If I was really on a strict budget, I would probably get the Huawei Band 6 or 7, or maybe the Huawei Watch Fit 2 if I wanted really good heart rate tracking. If my focus was on sleep stage tracking on a budget, I would probably get the Fitbit Inspire 3.

Thanks for your extensive work. I've been shopping around for a while and you've cut out a lot of the bullshit for me. Where do the other Polar watches fit in this? Did I miss the info about that or..? I'm on android and looking to track LISS and weightlifting HR primarily, but I want to be able to see it on my wrist. I'd also like to be able to skip a song on Spotify. Do Polar's watches not compare to their HR devices? I'd expect that their superior HR tech combined with smartwatch functions would outperform any other device. If its built to last I'm willing to spend around 200 euro. I'd rather go for a OH1 or I'd probably have to get a HuaweiWatch Fit2 otherwise as I don't want to be locked into a subscription or adopt a new ecosystem. Huawei though... Perhaps I should just get one of those arm straps to hold my phone in and use with the OH1 on the other arm/wrist. Options, options... Any suggestions are appreciated

We personally prefer the Apple watch 6 and the Polar OH1, since these devices where not only tested by Rob, but there are also papers available which proof their high accuracy. We could not yet find any papers which tested the accuracy of newer Apple watches than the Apple watch 6. Thank you for your great tests, Rob.

As you are willing to retest the OURA ring I would recommend revisiting the FENIX7/EPIX2. Since your testing there were a lot of updates in both Sleep tracking and HR measurements department. I presume, it is difficult to get the watch for the second time, but this is just a thought.

I have been wanting this as well! I have a Fenix 7x and Whoop 4.0, and they consistently match up across the board for body battery/recovery, load/strain, HR, sleep, etc. There have been significant improvements in firmware.

According to the tests I did, the Mi Band 7 Pro's sleep monitor and GPS are as good as those of the Redmi Watch 2 lite. Apparently both devices have similar sensors.

I can’t comment on the others but I have a Polar M430 and Mi Band 7. The Mi Band is great until you start moving your arm around too much. The M430 is spot on continuously. For £50 the Mi Band is packed with features and great at sleep tracking but the heart rate spikes every so often.

Hi Rob, yours are the best reviews of tracking devices on the planet. But I have one suggestion. When comparing correlation coefficients for different products, the x axis is correlation coefficient C and the y axis is… some function of C. Thus essentially the y axis is wasted. I suggest that you plot some other useful property on the y axis, which could be Amazon price or battery life. Price in particular would help peopLe see which trackers give the best value for money. Is this data based on the latest software releases? Although that might be a tedious task, it is essential to be able to compare apples to apples. For example, your data point for Garmin Venu 2 plus shows a low score for sleep tracking however there have been several fixes in their last two software releases.

I'm curious what everyone would recommend for someone like me who already has an Oura Ring 3 (so I'm happy with my sleep tracking) and I'm looking for a watch that will cover my "productivity" needs (i.e. deal with notifications on the go, etc.) and track heart rate during running or cycling. I'm not someone who would bring their smartwatch into the gym. I'm also Android based, so I think that rules out the Apple Watch? So based on the video it seems that Google Pixel Watch or Huawei Watch Fit 2 may be best?

As I get more and more into fitness I'm almost at the point of wearing two smart watches, I own a galaxy watch 4 that I use for calls, texts, payments, streaming music, etc, but the battery life really sucks and I'm tired of missing out on important health data while it's out of battery or on the charger.. I'm simply looking for a low budget watch that will accurately track total steps, total hours slept, resting heart rate and has a battery that will last for a long time without charging, I don't need any of the other fancy features and settings that some of these watches have. I really appreciate these videos as I know it would take me quite a while to figure which one is right for me.

Also, in therms of sleep. I had initially bought an Amazfit GTS 4 Mini for 6k INR. Then I changed my mind and returned it, when I faced issue with inaccurate HR detection during my workouts. When Fitbit Inspire 3 came out, I was interested in that, but Charge 5 was also at the back of my mind. I was getting the Inspire 3 at 8200 INR, and the Charge 5 at 10,500 INR. I bought the Charge 5, and am happy. The ECG feature is a plus in my opinion, and I do check it often, mostly just for fun.

R u using the ECG function on the Charge 5 in India? The ECG worked on my Huawei GT3 Pro in Dubai but it does not work in India...

@@bharatmanchanda Yes, ECG works in India, but Fitbit Irregular Rhythm Notifications are not available in India as of now. So manual ECG works, but app will not notify you automatically if it detects any arrythmia. Hopefully Fitbit makes the feature available in India soon.

In some areas, Honor Band 6 was on par or better than Huawei Band 6 / 7 - especially in resting and cycling heart rate measurement. Do you rate Huawei Band higher than Honor Band?

I'm glad that he mentioned Huawei Band 7 at the end, and he's right about it! Bought it last month, since I just need a device to track my basic fitness task, it's packs all basic things that I need. Reason I don't buy smart watch just a band because I already owned a regular Casio watch for other events.
