Bell Race Star Ace using jade minerals does raise some concerns. There is 2 types of jade: jadeite, the more rare and expensive one and nephrite aka Chinese jade which is cheaper and more abundant... and also similar in molecular structure to asbestos. Not something you want to have so close to your nose in tiny particles. This from someone who works with jade.

I've had the Corsair X for almost 2 years now. Totally worth the money in my opinion. Only thing I don't like is the way Arai has designed the way the cheek pads and neck roll go together. Ventilation is amazing and I've ridden in heavy rain for over 2 hours with it and it kept my head perfectly dry even. I'm at the point now where I think I'll replace all the padding on the inside since it's getting a little loose on my head now. Edit: Oh, and the matte black colour matches the matte black paint on my Daytona almost perfectly ;)

I hadn't really seen any reviews, I just knew to go for snell and got myself an Arai Quantum ST-Pro, which is slightly loose fitting, but very comfortable, and has emergency release padding, a clear fog-free pinlock insert(the shield seriously never fogs up), and a dark external sun visor which can be raised/lowered as needed. It's also well ventilated, but quite loud on the wind noise with all the vents open(chin vent, two brow vents, two top vents as well as a rear dual exit vent that can be closed), all easy to adjust with gloves on. I just wanted snell safety, touring comfort and the adjustable sun visor, but I'm happy with the purchase. The biggest downside was that the importer only had it available in matte black, and I'd have prefered something more visible, like neon yellow (which Arai does make, but the shop didn't import).

I went through an entire store of helmets and the only one I tried that didn't put crazy pressure on my forehead was the Shoei RF-1200. Bought it. Though I rarely get the benefit of multiple shell sizes as I wear an XL (which usually shares a shell with XXL). Two weeks later, the Schuberth C4 came out, and I wish I never tried it on, because It was absolutely perfect and insanely expensive.

I had a CL-17, and found it terribly uncomfortable. I picked up a Bell Vortex for $100 (on closeout super sale). I really love it. It’s super comfortable. I don’t find it loud. The visor hinge could be better...., but for $100, I’m very happy I got rid of the CL17.

Arai make the best helmets. I've tried just about every helmet brand, some more than once. My Quantum ST Pro isn't perfect, the visor vents are a bit fiddly and I've had quieter, but it's just a nice place to be. The vents are awesome, it's not heavy, the pinlock is recessed so doesn't get scratched, the tinted peak thing works flawlessly, good field of vision, doesn't get stuffy, or fog, head doesn't buffet, vents don't whistle. This is my second Arai, had an older Quantum 20 years ago. I wouldn't even consider anything but Arai now. Oh yea and it's got a little pull down chin spoiler to take the wind off your neck. Details!

I highly recommend the Scorpion brand !!! NO CONCUSSION SYMPTOMS OR LOSS OF CONSCIOUSNESS! I had the Exo R410 with only first layer paint chips after I was hit going 80km/hr by a car who cut me off... flying over his windshield (that my helmet smashed) and then landing on the pavement which was a soft flat on my back landing (in other words a miracle). The back spoiler of the helmet has wear to the bottom from resting on the pavement I would assume. ***** Even though the medics didn't notice the emergency tab until I told them, the cheek pads came out without interfering with C-spine protocols! I did loose the visor somewhere in the chaos though. *****

The Scorpion seems very similar to the Shoei RF-1200. I've got the Shoei but I may go with the Arai next. I can def say the ventilation on the RF-1200 is sub par, especially if you have a big windscreen. With my touring screen on my Versys, I find I keep the visor open most of the time.

I have the scorpion r710 and it's an amazing helmet. The only gripe I have is it is a little roomy on the top part of my head as stated in the video. I really like what scorpion has been putting out. They might be my favorite company. I have there 1909 jacket and it is so good looking and comfortable.

Hey ryan, Love your videos but can you tell me why at 6:43 the bell has a DOT sticker at the back? i Thought this was SNELL and that DOT was just a terrible buy?

Thanks Jake! Yep - any Snell helmet sold in the US will *also* have a DOT sticker on it, as that is the legal requirement. Doesn't mean it's any less safe - most likely it cleared the DOT test by a mile. ~RF9

I cant say enough good things about the scorpion EXO 410. Comes in both White and High Vis Yellow and is pretty frequently on sale for less than 150$. Definitely not a particularly comfortable helmet (my 80$ speed and strength helmet is loads more comfy, but unless your touring with it it probably won't bug you too much.

Yea Bell Vortex visor sucks, finally upgrading to a Race Star after crashing in the Vortex after a couple years. Anytime I would shoulder check at 60mph+, air would come through the bottom even with chin curtain and blow the visor wide open. Doesn't stay locked down. Safe helmet though

my last good helmet was an Arai motocross i bought in the late 1990's that was a "600" dollar helmet i paid like 4 or 500 for, forgot it in the desert after spraining my ankle and bought an hjc in 2010 and it was as good as the old arai really maybe better protection and my new helmet is a sedici and its good overall but the visor broke off the other day so now im stuck with the little flip down visor which for the way i ride around town in the daytime works out fine but i cant ride highway much

I'm not Ryan but I would recommend getting a motorcycle dash cam. I bought one specifically after I got in a crash on the freeway at 60mph and the other party lied and it was decided to be 50/50 with insurance. I had a gopro that just happened to run out of batteries when I started my commute back home.. figures... After I installed a dash cam on my bike that is on every single time I start up my bike (no more battery issues) and it came in use when I got into another low speed incident that sent me to the hospital. This is critical because I wasn't able to deliver my statement to the police and the other guy lied up his ass. The video from my dash cam exonerated me 100% after I recovered it from my bike.

John Alexander i know this is a year later, but i have a HJC rpha 10 and it has a problem (for me) that the wind kinda creeps up inside the cheekpads below my ears making it very loud at speeds over 55mph/90km something like that. Is the rf1200 the same for you?

Not always - usually it's up to the specific racing league or track authority to set the helmet requirements. ~RF9

Correct, it's track-dependent, but if you're planning on a track day, invest into a SNELL certified helmet anyway. It's a negligible premium over DOT-only, especially considering other expenses of a track day, so it's well worth the investment to know that your head is well-protected considering you're about to do something that is by all accounts very dangerous.

The visor on my Scorpion 410 is terrible. So bad I am shopping for a new helmet after 4 months of use. The clear is very distorted and the dark is foggy in direct sunlight. Unfortunate, because otherwise a good helmet. Previously had a Scorpion 700

Hey Ryan, do you think the racing/sports helmets are not good for use on motorbikes which have a very upright sitting position? e.g. the Africa Twin. I'm just curious about that, because I believe that racing helmets are designed for that forward lean (Wind flow etc.). Or do you think the different shapes won't make a big difference?
