Just surfing and found your film. This brings back memories from my days in the Royal Marines. Spent loads of time with Hexi (Hexamine) burners and mess tins . The original burners used to come with a brown wax paper around them, so that you had something to help you start the Hexi blocks. Break up the Hexi tablet by putting the whole tablet in the palm of your hand then smash on one of your bent knees! Then light one of the broken bits with your lighter/match. The Hexi tablets are coated with wax. . It is best to light the Hexi tablet on one of the broken sides. You can also place the broken pieces in the tray, hold the cooker up and light from below. Saves burning your fingers!! You can turn the cooker upside down and plant the triangular prongs into the ground, or best to keep the prongs fully open to rest your mess tin or pot on. Unless you are using one of the small metal cups/pans. Use a soldering sheet to prevent the flames scorching the grass beneath when lit. i never really liked them. They smell of fish and you need an open space to use them. Not to be used inside a tent or the fumes coming off could do you some harm . But saying the concept is good and they work well. Thanks for the memories.

I found that prepping foods for the future of things to come has become one of my hobbies. I appreciate videos like these, they bring creative thoughts to mind. But, as an addition to this vid I will suggest, if you like cooking your own foods out on the range that are not company manufacture, if you can, pre-boil bean, rice and greens to [near] done then dehydrate them way before your journey.

Waiting for the next sale so i can buy a bunch of goodies, I recommend the two grill set they are super high quality and well packaged, the bag is a great presentation piece. I never use these things to boil water. For me, they're purely a survival campfire or tent stove starter to avoid burning calories fighting against lower quality tinder in a jam. These firestarters in tandem with a plasma lighter are weather-proof and have allowed me to light fires in the worst conditions on the trail in my home state of Tasmania in the very rainy southern end of Australia.

Good fire starters, multiple cakes of solid fuel cook nicely. They’re light, stable and contain easily. I’ll use them. Thanks, from …east Tennessee.

I just bought a large box of those Expedition tablets. 1 tablet burned for 23 min but never got a rolling boil for 1 cup of water while it was 85 degrees out. Then I burned 2 tablets for 1 cup and it did give me a rolling boil at the 15 min mark.

Hi Doc, have you tried Coghlan's fuel tablets? In my experience, they don't work quite as well as Esbit. But they cost a LOT less, so the price-per-use is much better.. Do a quick Web search, and you'll probably find a few dealers. You may have to pay shipping, but if you buy a few packs at once, they'll still cost way less than Esbits.
@Hcdav-s5y3 жыл бұрын
Now keep in mind, the expedition fuel burns for 15 min or so, it doesn't say it will cook anything for 15 min. So, I think they are worth the money, compared to the other 2 fuels. Thanks for the video.

You should be using a digital thermometer to test the water temp. Esbit only got my 16 oz of water to 164 degrees in 8 minutes so the packaging is incorrect that it would boil in that time, not even close actually.

Gorda Solid Fuel Tablets are what I've bought & use. Consider comparing them to Esbit or Fire Dragon fuel tablets. As of today, no one on youtube has reviewed Gorda solid Fuel tablets that are claimed to "NOT STINK" like Esbit tablets. As of 29 Jan 2024; 40 tablets on ER website costs $30.00 & that doesn't include shipping or taxes. Unavailable/out of stock - on all other internet websites. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada

Have you ever tested military trioxane tablets?
@jshappart5 жыл бұрын
I bought a bulk box of these, a 10 pack of boxes (4 tabs per box). In your review you state that there is no fishy smell when the tabs are in the packaging. That is not true for the box of the Expedition Fuel Tabs I received today. In the packaging, these have the strong fishy smell of other solid fuel tabs and must be placed in a ziplock bag to reduce odor. The when I opened the cardboard shippin box that the bulk box came in, the smell was somewhat over powering and I had to move the box out of my gear room and into the garage it was so strong. Mind you, I am used to strong fishy smells as I am a fish biologist, these tabs stink pure and simple, while still in the sealed water proof packaging.
