Darth Sidious is the greatest success and failure in Star Wars, because he spent decades with his iron patience, creating the perfect apprentice. Then, he did all he could to save him and make him even more powerful through his teachings, but after all, when he saw a new opportunity, he was willing to throw all these decades of Anakin's manipulation to obtain someone potentially more powerful. He, as the most powerful entity in the galaxy was more than capable to end Luke's life immediately, but he choose to play with him, and Vader's patience. He couldn't have survived in any way such a betrayal from Vader, yet he choose to eliminate this as a possible outcome. At the end, he forgot about every Sith master's destiny-betrayed and killed by their apprentices, more powerful than them-or not.

Can I call the Jedi as a whole a single character here? Talk about spectacular failures.

Admiral Holdo is a failure of leader with no idea how to maintain order and unity in a time of crisis. She childishly berates and disrespects allies whom she considers beneath her, not understanding that doing so makes them lose respect for her and undermines her own authority. Her lack of transparency shows a lack of trust toward her crew, which in turn reduces their trust in her. All of this bites her in the ass when her crew completely loses faith in her and stages a mutiny. Her plan regarding the escape pods failed because she led her crew to believe that she didn't even have a plan at all. She didn't give them leadership and hope; she talked about hope while giving them confusion and despair. And then she's presented as a hero. An absolute failure and a terrible character.

The Jedi Council was the greatest failure because they got complacent and handled Anakin poorly.

I enjoy your analyzes. Another thing you could mention is that hiding and making moves in silence helped the sith and the jedi. While the sith hid out for thousands of years, they got more knowledgeable and waited for the jedi to become dogmatic. The jedi hid from the empire in the trilogy and didn't emerge until Luke was ready to begin down the path of being a jedi. Whereas Palpatine influenced Anakin to betray the jedi, Luke influenced Vadar to betray the sith. That balanced the force.

I’ll add onto this too when Obi-Wan yells “WELL THEN YOU ARE LOST!!” It’s when Yoda’s words really begin to sink in for him - that Anakin Skywalker truly has become consumed by Darth Vader. That’s why the next shot of these 2 legendary heroes of the Clone Wars meeting eye to eye as John Williams’ operatic and apocalyptic score crescendoes… is just tragic. Obi-Wan went through hell in an attempt to bring Anakin back to the light, but he failed. The only thing left to do for the sake of the galaxy is leave Anakin to the magmatic fires of Mustafar (almost in a way condemn him there)…

Remember in Episode IV: A New Hope when Uncle Owen said to Luke "I don't think he [Obi-Wan] exists anymore. He died about same time as your father [Anakin]?" He wasn't wrong... Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi died on Mustafar; they might've physically survived the apocalyptic hell of the planet, but they re-emerged from the fire and lava as something different...

In hindsight Obi Wan shouldn’t have been so hard on Anakin, he should’ve tried listening and being more understanding towards Anakin. Also he should’ve showed Anakin more compassion, and given him an outlet for his feelings. He and the Jedi had indeed failed Anakin, he was wrong to force Anakin into that flawed Jedi mold. Padme, and later Luke were able to see the good that was still in Anakin, something that Obi Wan and Yoda couldn’t.
@Loki-g3k11 ай бұрын
Totally agreed.Obi-wan put two much faith in Jedi order.I don't think he didn't have compassion for anakin, if he trusted his own instincts things would turned out better. In AOTC obi-wan told Yoda and Windu that anakin needs much to learn and maybe he should change his strategy to train him but Jedi were blind by the chosen one prophecy that they forgot the most important fact that Anakin was just a human being with all his flaws and emotions.

Obi wan’s story is by far the most harrowing
@sevex92 жыл бұрын
You said that Obi-wan left Anakin thinking that he killed him. I think that's the wrong way to look at it. It's another failure or mistake on Obi-wan's part. He could never bring himself to actually strike a killing blow on Anakin. Even as Anakin is suffering and being burned alive Obi-wan can't put him out of his misery. The best Obi-wan can do is *let him die.* Also I'm not so sure Obi-wan really took the high ground in order to trick Anakin. I think his appeal to Anakin to give up was sincere. True he may not have thought it would work but he tried and in this way it forther absolves/distances Obi-wan of the responsibility of killing Anakin. Not only does he think that he has the moral highground in the general sense, but he's desperately taking the moral high ground in the fight, preparing himself mentally to defeat or kill Anakin. Obi-wan being on the backfoot throughout the fight also indicates his reluctance, not just because it's the Jedi way. Obi-wan's mistake in not finishing off Anaking was a choice based emotion, which is of course associated with the dark side. It could be reasoned it was this choice which directly allowed for the creation of Vader.
@jmwilliamsart Жыл бұрын
Perhaps, but if he had delivered the final blow than Anakin wouldn’t have gone on to destroy Palpatine in episode 6 just like the prophecy said. So sparing Anakin was the correct decision in the long run.

Without absolutes, there is no evil.
@PatrickWentzell-jd9gq8 ай бұрын
there was another suite Vader could have worn that Palpatine didn't allow he felt if Vader did not suffer much then his apprentice would turn against him because we know Sith will turn againat each other and it's rare few care about others .
@PatrickWentzell-jd9gq8 ай бұрын
If Luke's father wanted his son to have that blue lightsaber it would seem to indicate Anakin was struck down by a sith lord and before dying made the request to have the saber passed down but Obiwan told a different story of how Luke's father died yeah it doesn't quite fit .
@jkdbuck76702 жыл бұрын
Why didn't Obi Wan finish him off? Also, why didn't Vader let Luke cut the Emperor down? 2 big questions.

I hate that the clone wars gave clones brain chips. It makes it more tragic to have them turn on the Jedi knowingly. Palpatine was a master manipulator. It's not far fetched that he'd have brainwashed HIS army himself. Relying on technology... eh. It doesn't ruin the prequels for me, but I never thought it was needed

@EricGraham942 ай бұрын
Anakin, in ROTJ, changes… BECAUSE he can’t change. He’s always operated off of emotion. It’s what drove him to join the dark side then eventually renounce it, making Anakin Skywalker one of - if not - the most human Star Wars character.
@TheKeyser942 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call Anakin the love her life of Padme, they fling was doom to fail from the beginning, not only for their opposite ideologies, that Padme chose to ignore, but because Anakin not really love Padme, he want a replacement for his mother, even after she is killed, and Padme, as she say herself, want a life outside her duties to the Republic, so in other words, neither is being honest with each other, what Anakin has is an obsession, not love, and Padme is only using him to have life outside of being a Senator, she even admit that they are living a lie, but Anakin not want to hear it.
