Sonamarg or Sonmarg, known as Sonamarag in Kashmiri, is a hill station located in the Ganderbal District of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is located about 62 kilometers from Ganderbal Town and 80 kilometers northeast of the capital city, Srinagar.
The word 'Sonamarg' means ‘Meadow of Gold' and is a mesmerising place located at high altitudes in the wonderful state of Jammu and Kashmir. Sonamarg is surrounded by enchanting glaciers and lakes, and the beauty of the place is simply ethereal. You will pass this picturesque town as you drive to Ladakh and Sonamarg also serves as a base when you embark on the holy Amarnath Yatra. B,coz of local traveling so expensive , people wish to travel outside india. if Rs.7000/- per night room tariff they charge, who is going to afford it ! If you travel Kashm ir for 10 days and that too in such extra rated hotels , your total expense would be more than 1 Lac ! Dont you think is is higher side for medium class families ???

A good documentary, but please do not highlight & relate "movies" with beauty of Kashmir (no Bajrangi Baijan etc). This spoils the taste of beauty of Kashmir. I belonged to Kashmir, (but lost our home).... Have been to most of 20 best places of Kashmir in times, when facilities were limited, not many hotels, no dhabas. We used to hire tents, carry our own luggage bedding & utensils. But that was very fulfilling & great health exercise. Now-a-days, visitors go & destroy the beauty by expecting city like facilities. In earlier times, great Hindi movies were shot at Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamag, Dal Lake. Watch Rajinder Kumar & Sadhana in Movie. Arzoo.
