Clarification please on FEHB. 1 spouse will hold FEHB at a time. How is it determined who is eligible to carry it into retirement? My older husband holds FEHB for the family and will retire 3 years before me. Sounds like we should move FEHB to me before he retires to earn the tax credit those last 3 years. Then when I retire, who should hold the FEHB (or both separately?) to ensure we both keep FEHB even after 1 of us dies? Thank you for this video!!

What’s the comparison of two individual plans vs. self plus one? I think two individual plans are cheaper than one self plus one, so is there a reason to get the latter vs. the former?

We are both fed employees looking to get married. One of us is already retired (him). If the working spouse (me) carries the retired spouse on FEHB and we later divorce, is it correct that the retired spouse cannot go back on FEHB once they’ve dropped and they’re kind of screwed? Also, when the working spouse retires and makes less in retirement than the other spouse and now has to carry that spouse forever on the single+1 plan, isn’t that still more money than if we had stayed on our respective single plans? Thanks.

I am a CSRS retiree and my wife was NOT a fed worker. I had elected when I retired to do a minimum amount of survivor benefits. I thought by doing that my spouse would still be able to keep the federal health insurance policy after I pass. But when talking on phone with OPM they said I would have had to taken the full survivor benefits in order for the health insurance to pass on to spouse after my death. Is that correct? If that is correct what options for health insurance would my spouse have? Thanks.
