I've lived my whole life in Wuhan and I didn't realize how many of our breakfasts are... vegan or vegetarian.

Hi Mahesh! Thank you so much for watching! If you can, I would highly recommend having a phone with the Google Translate app on it. The app will not work without a VPN installed on your phone. Regardless of this app, having a VPN is very helpful when you are in China so that you can access all of the websites, email, KZbin, Google, etc. that you would normally use. They may be blocked by the Great Firewall otherwise. We really liked Express VPN and used it the entire 3 months we stayed there. I've heard good things about Nord VPN. The Google translate app is incredible. You can type words to be translated, you can speak words for translation, and you can take a picture of a label and highlight the ingredients with your finger to be translated. This was a lifesaver to avoiding animal products for me. In terms of phrases, "méiyǒu ròu" means "no meat" (if that doesn't work "bu yao ròu" is "I don't want meat"). "Méiyǒu jīdàn" means "no egg" if you avoid that as well. There is no word for vegan, but I found that if I type in Google Translate that I'm a strict vegetarian, they understood this because of Buddhist culture. Seeking out Buddhist temples are good as well because many of them have a restaurant and it will always be entirely vegetarian. The Happy Cow app/website is also a fantastic tool to help you find places to eat. Have a wonderful time in China!!

Do the Chinese really eat dogs, cats, insects bats? I wonder.
@fengshi42844 жыл бұрын
Dogs? yes, only in some parts of China, although not as regular food. Cats, insects, bats? only very few people who are extremely bored with normal food and want to try something exotic. This kind of people exist everywhere in the world.

is it possible to avoid MSG components of foods while traveling China? I’m super sensitive to it (and not just in Asian foods.) It’s annoying because MSG didn’t even exist until the 20th Century. I’m sure most cuisines were doing just fine without it. 🙄
