Big difference with suspension forks vs stems is that the wheel moves up and down with a fork - so this improves grip as the wheel tracks the terrain better. You don't get that benefit with a stem.

Great video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. I note a previous comment regards Stem V Forks, favouring suspension forks. Anothers youtuber recommends suspension stems for bike packing. So guess it comes down to personal preference and use. Racing V Bike packing etc... Cheers

Great vlog, find it interesting how the bike industry is going full circle again with going back into fork shocks more and more (something which for gravel, before it became "trendy" have always rode with and lock out when not needed), marginal loss of wattage for sure but in terms of comfort plus speed through endurance, multi day rides then i wouldnt understand not having them. Agree regarding the redshift stem more useful for lighter courses i think. Also i think the other big things for all rounders are tri bars, well worth having for any endurance mixed ultra and a must on longer courses not just for the aero advantage but being able to get a difference position on the bike is a godsend for smoother sections when not in gravel. Best tip i thought for novices was keeping relaxed in the grips on pure "gravel" courses instead of being tensed up, i equate it to people learning to ski its the same stiffness effect of being nervous. Ride within a speed of your exposure tolerances and the confidence will come each time is a good reassurance for anyone wanting to go offroad. Bit like learning descending on big hills and speed naturally its progressive as you do bigger gradients.

I think the Lauf fork has a shorter axle to crown length than the Rudy so it has less of an impact on the geometry. If I remember rightly the Lauf is about 410 compared to about for 425 for the 30mm Rudy.

The 3rd gen Lauf fork is slightly longer - 419mm www.laufcycles.com/product/lauf-grit-3rd-gen

Great video 😊very interesting and informative as I'm just going to buy a gravel bike .I'm torn as too do I get a flat bar bike or drop bars 😢I do love my drop bar road bike .I kinda just thought maybe a flat bar would be more stable 🤔 any way thanks again for the video and I look forward to your next one ❤

Just a thought but if the fork is raising your front end you could try a 700c in the rear and 650b in the front

If you’re putting suspension on your gravel bike. Just get a hard tail.
@JulietElliottsChannel7 ай бұрын
That’s a very simplistic view. The two bikes are very different. It’s not just suspension that makes something a MTB
@Zenek1437 ай бұрын
@@JulietElliottsChannel absolutely, however I didn’t want to write an essay. Of course I’m aware the two bikes are very different.

Thank you for this Q&A vid. I’m very interested in the Lauf fork myself. Almost bought their gravel bike but decided on a titanium bike instead. But will probably put a Lauf fork on it eventually.

Hi Juliet! Do you know of any cool gravel bike races in the UK this year that you'd recommend checking out?
@JulietElliottsChannel7 ай бұрын
Hi! It's not strictly speaking a race but I really enjoyed Stone Circle last year and I'd be going back if it didn't clash with something else I'm doing. Other than that, I've raced Gritest and enjoyed that format. There's also Frontier 300 that looks pretty cool. I've never been to Kings Cup but looks like it could be fun
