To get a little more bang for your buck I let my higdon "tow" another decoy behind

Great idea. I’m going to have to give that a try.

I have the higdon and the plug rusted away after 2 uses. We hunt salt water sometimes and the plug it right in the water and with the battery power going thru it immediately ate it up
@PelicanBoneOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Me too. I started coating it in some dielectric grease

I bought a (real decoy swimmer) the one with a torpedo on the bottom side. It was cheap and now I know why, the thing maybe ran for an hour tops. I saw Higdons Bluebill swimmer and took the gamble and wowwww the birds up here love it and they will commit all day long. Currently I have 2 Bluebill swimmers along with a Canadian goose swimmer. Worth every penny

So have you tried these decoys out in salt water yet? I was thinking about getting the blue bill higdon for diver ducks down here in Louisiana
@PelicanBoneOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
yes. I often hunt in brackish marshes. The plug of the higdon will corrode in high salinity but that can be remedied by using some sort of electric grease.

They will rust through in 3. -5 times. Had a few of the Higdon butts.. connection is in the water. Lucky ducks are sealed!
@TheKlt1200c Жыл бұрын
Go with the Higdon. We had 2 Lucky Duck tippers. The first one lasted only 3 days. No-one well take a chance on the second one. The seals are VERY poorly designed. Changing is a pain. They were stripped for the recycle bin. The Higdon's are very well built. We have 2 that are 4 years old. They are used 55 out of 60 days per season. Higdon's are VERY rugged. Spend a few more bucks and get something that will last years, not days. We just bought 2 more Higdon's.

The higdon is a little loud. I wouldn’t use it in a flooded timber situation but it’s never been a problem in open marsh.

Does the higdon decoy make a lot of noise? I’ve had 3 pulsators and they’re great until they start making noise. Then they start flaring ducks LOL
@PelicanBoneOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
It does make a bit of noise. I haven't had it flare any birds but that is one improvement that could be made on it.

I hunt at camp for 20 days with no electricity to recharge batteries up here in Alaska...looking for a swimmer that runs on D-cell batteries.
@PelicanBoneOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Man I don’t know of any off hand. I wonder if you could convert one.
@chevyon37s3 жыл бұрын
I dont think any motion decoys run on D cells. A few like the mojo’s run on AA’s but they’re junk.
@chevyon37s3 жыл бұрын
I found “the real decoy” has some shaker decoys that they say run aprox 30hrs on a single D cell. And you can buy two of them for what the Higdon XS swimmer costs. That said I had already purchased the Higdon swimmer and pulsator.

To charge the lucky duck I don’t believe you have to use the alligator clips the alligator clips should pull off the charging cord leaving you a charger that you can plug into the cylinder by the switch. At least that’s how all my lucky duck products work a little easier than the alligator clips
