My favorites are Tales of Vesperia and Dragon Quest Heroes II (I played on PS4, but they are on Switch), Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes, Hyrule Warriors games, and Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin Sakuna has rice farming, but there is a setting that makes it much easier. I just loved how it fed into the combat and Sakuna's stats.

I played the original Xenoblade 1 on the Wii back in 2011 and so I didn't see the point of buying the remake version on the switch when it released in 2020. However yesterday I saw the digital copy on sale and downloaded it and so far im enjoying it, I wanted a physical copy but for some reason the price has sky rocketed. Xenoblade 2 was my first game on the Switch and whilst I did like it, I kept comparing it to Xenoblade 1 and thinking its not as good but what's interesting is that playing Xenbolade 3 made me appreciate Xenoblade 2. I liked many aspects of 3 but did not like the world in it. I haven't played the DLC Future Connected and have seen many people online say it should have been the main game of 3. Overall a good series.

Tales of Vesperia is my go to when it comes to action RPGs on Switch. I played it 3 times on 360 and it's still my second most played Switch game, only recently beat by Fire Emblem Engage. Fire Emblem Warriors is also one of my favorite game on the system and while I'm not done with them, Trials of Mana and Ys VIII seem really promising from what I did play.

Hi Paige, great video as usual. From someone who only got into Ys a few years ago, because I was intimidated by the scale of the series, I would HIGHLY recommend Ys Origins. It's short, affordable, and very fun; it was exactly what I needed to introduce me to what YS is all about. The Xenoblade games are high on my list to play, but it is hard to commit to a series of hundred hour games that are so story and exploration based. I'm prone to getting distracted by life, and with Xenoblade 2 in particular I've heard that it can be very difficult to fully grasp/retain the systems unless you are really committed to the game!

My copy of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot came in yesterday. Despite me not knowing anything about DBZ…you always say such good things about the game. The Ys games are top notch action RPGs for sure. I also like the Cat Quest games and Trials of Mana all on the Switch. There are definitely some bangers! Great video as always!

I finished playing Star Ocean The Second Story a few weeks ago and I enjoyed it, wish it a bit longer though, I've avoided playing the Star Ocean series for a long time due to my experience with Star Ocean 3 which was my least favourite jrpg on the PS2 however asm im older and a bit more open minded I wanted to give the series a 2nd shot. Star Ocean divine force looks interesting however that isn't on the switch

The 16-Bit version of *Trials of Mana* might be more enjoyable to you. *Legend of Mana* is also not bad. Here is a nice little list of some I like: *Trinity Trigger* (a modern Mana style game) *Tunic* (incredible on Switch) *Ender Lillies* (a beautiful Metroidvania) *Oninaki* (action RPG made by Square and the developers of *I Am Setsuna* and *Lost Sphere* ) *Indivisable* (a side-scrolling action RPG for cheap. Highly under rated) *Cris Tales* (another side-scrolling and under appreciated action RPG for cheap) *Hogwarts Legacy* (I mean… come on!) I tried to give you a list of more obscure titles that you, or others, may have missed. I hope you like some of them. BTW, are you from Canada? I’m betting you are.

Ys 8 Lacrimosa of Dana. When I started this game I was so shocked. How do you make an action rpg without a currency system??? Turns out only one of the greatest games of all time. It lures you in with this sense of discovery and trying to help all the characters. The first 2 arcs not rpg BS with overcomplicated stuff at all. By the time the 3rd arc starts to introduce these elements you will be so invested that you just have to press on. I like the Xenoblade series. But it's difficult to call them action RPGs if you ask due to the strange battle system. I'm glad you enjoyed Xenoblade 2 as much as you did. Personally I think Rex makes that game so much harder to love than it needs to. All other characters are great but Rex takes the whole thing down by at least 2 grades. If you played both Xenoblade 1 and 2 I can't recomand Xenoblade 3 enough. It's by far the best of the 3 games with incredible characters and an amazing story.

Great list. If you haven't played other versions of Nier Automata the switch one is pretty good. Some people consider Astral Chain an Action JRPG though from what you've commented it might be harder than what you find enjoyable.

I love the Xenoblade games my personal fave is 3, as for other Action JRPG's my picks are the Atelier Ryza games, Sakuna Of Rice and Ruin, Crystar, Nights of Azure 1 and 2 and Yakuza 0. (yet to play the rest of Yakuza games wish they were on Switch)

I don't know if you messed around with it yet or not, but since you mentioned the comment about Star Ocean's music, try going to the menu and changing the music to the original PlayStation soundtrack. I am new to Star Ocean also so it's not like I have nostalgia for this music or anything that biases me, but I think the original PlayStation soundtrack was way better than the arranged one they have by default. I'd be curious to know if you like the original soundtrack more as well.

I liked Neo World Ends With You quite a bit, its so different than other JRPGs and it takes some getting used to but its not overly difficult. Other than that... I have a whole bunch of games I play on the Switch, and a huge backlog lol. But the only other JRPG I got around to on switch is Tactics Ogre Reborn. Really liked how it played and the world building, and it does feel a bit like Triangle Strategy.

Ys Origin, Ys 8 and Trials of Mana remake are better than all those games (to me). If you haven't played them, then I highly recommend them! I think the Ys games have easy settings. They aren't that hard. Trials of Mana is easy and i think it has difficulty settings. Even if it doesn't, you can grind and overcome stuff easily (doesn't need much grinding). But yeah, if you haven't played those games, please play them.

@@femtrooper One other thing: If you try Ys, starting with Ys Origin could be good. It is short, has great music, it's simple, there is not a bunch of padding (e.g. not a ton of extra dialogue) and it introduces you to the Ys world. It is a prequel to Ys 1. If you end up not liking it, it is not a huge time commitment.

Hi Paige, I have a cheeky recommendation that I think you will really enjoy because of your love of anime, and the game is made very well and that is Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. I tried Dragon's Dogma in preparationfor the sequel, and it is great! Runs really well, a bit unconventional with its systems but the adventuring is undeniably brilliant. A game that is all about the journey!

I'll admit, action RPGs are generally not my jam, but I do enjoy one from time to time. I usually only rock a Ys title, Tales of, or Star Ocean and that's it, lol. Star Ocean Til End of Time on PS2 is good and The Last Hope was really fun on the 360. I really don't enjoy most Square action RPGs, I tolerated FFVII Remake because I love the story and characters so much. Xenoblade is almost not an action rpg, almost a hybrid, probably why I like them so much.

@@femtrooper They have top notch puzzels and combat. Challenging puzzles but not too hard. The games themselves are not too long either. The combat is easy to learn and master, with easy progression, really. The story is interesting. Performance is great too. The second one in the series (Deathinitive Edition) reminded me at times to the OG Tomb Raider because of the areas to explore.

I'll mention a top 2 which are the latest i finished (also the best in my opinion) Xenoblade chronicle 3 (perfect gameplay, story more relatable). Ys8 (awesome gameplay, i love the island setting and the mystery surrounding it). In the end i'm more and more into turn based, like i can't play anything else... I should try and continu/start over one of those game in your list.

Second Story R is so GOOD that even i, an action-RPG hater, liked it. I bought the first one on the PS5 but haven't played it yet. Xenoblade 1 is a masterpiece of story-telling imo, i think it's a mix between action and turn-based, and i think it's a good compromise for people who love and hate turn-based combat.

I thoroughly recommend Star Ocean: Til the end of time on the PS2 next. Next to Second Story it's the best for me. Question about Xenoblade though - I put the Wii version down as I got a bit fedup with the weird difficulty spikes requiring grinding. Is this a major area of improvement for this definitive version? If it is, I'll defo pick it up.

I picked up Harvestella on your recommendation months back, but haven't opened it yet. Now that I'm done with Persona 5 Royal I might start Harvestella or Final Fantasy Crisis Core Reunion.

Ha ha, I actually played some of those games. My big issue with action JRPGs despite them seeming to be more appealing on paper is that they play worse than actual beat em ups do, but I say they are appealing because beat em up gameplay I am more familar with than turn based. I might play that Star Ocean remake after I finally start actively playing JRPGs if that even happens. I played Crisis Core and found it to be alright, it wasn't terrible but the game started to get so difficulty in around Chapter 3-5ish that I started to look up what I was supposed to do every time a boss did their limit break on me, the level system was overly convoluted but then I just kept spamming Firaga, Cure and then replenish MP with ethers and beat the game. It's cool you were able to find a goldilocks zone in terms of challenge but I pretty much cheesed it. Funny how you also mention DBZ Kakarot, I recently finished the Trunks Warrior of Hope DLC and while I liked it, I am not so sure I like the combat, it's functional but it's also kind of dull and it can get infuriating when it gets challenging especially during the Android 17 and 18 fights. The fights just feel like enemies have lots of HP and the so many of the special moves do the same thing and your Ki gets drained fast so you have to use physical attacks which makes fights go by even longer, and when enemies go into rage mode, it just makes everything even longer. I don't dislike Kakarot's combat but I think Warrior of Hope and 23rd World Tournament are the only DLCs I will play.

Great titles, there are a few of those that I've yet to play. I stopped playing star ocean: the devine force. I got it on release but felt it was kind of janky and was waiting for an update, but I don't think it got one at least not on the series x version. I will definitely go back to it as the story did intrigue me.

@@femtrooper I don't have children, but as an adult who plays games, i have many other things that preoccupy my mind, and i just don't have the time to deal with tough bosses from the get go. For a lack of a better term, I love Metroidvanias, and I wanted to love Hollow Knight, but its a hard ass game, and they aren't forgiving at all. One of the first bosses, who literally shows up within the first half hour is tough as nails and it just gets tougher from there.
