I like it as a spectacle, and a combination of the 1st and the 10th Doctor's interiors, but imo it doesn't properly utilise the massive space, I can't wrap my head around why it's so big and empty. My current favourite is 12's as it feels large but also cosy with warm lighting and loads of possessions littered around the place. This one has harsh lighting and mostly empty space so they can't even really fill it up to make it more homely like they did with 11 to 12. Who knows though, maybe it'll grow on me. I love everything else about 14, his outfit and screwdriver are some of the best yet imo.
@CulturePhilter9 ай бұрын
I get what you mean about homeliness of 12s. I guess we’ll see how they use it with Ncuti
@CakeorDeath19899 ай бұрын
I sort of get what you mean. All those gantries going here, there, and everywhere, but none of them really leading anywhere. It would be cool to have them going up to different platforms or "rooms" within the main room. Like an area that has the old computers behind the glass shield like with the original interior, maybe a room that's more casual and has seating, etc. Only time will tell if they update the set throughout the time it's used as the interior. I do vividly remember them adding an area to Jodie Whittaker's TARDIS between Series 11 and 12, so it isn't unprecedented.
@LexVanguard20049 ай бұрын
@@CakeorDeath1989 I hope they add more platforms to it as Ncuti's adventures go on, much like how 12 took 11's interior and added some home touches. Just more gradual this time.
@the_real_drwhoroblox19359 ай бұрын
Yea I kinda imagined it to be a hybrid of both the first ever design of classic and modern who respectively (like the white of the 1963 and the coral room of 2005) but it works imo Also, when I first saw this I felt a bit of disappointment because I saw the leak and I had quoted the scene where the meep showed his true colors as I believed because their hard work had been exposed too early, they would’ve gone with something similar in concept to it but kinda organic and whimsical like 11th’s design and doubling as a natural progression of 13’s one.
@CakeorDeath19899 ай бұрын
@@LexVanguard2004 not just home touches either, but iirc, new roundels, grates on the floor around the console, etc, etc. Altogether, it seemed like they improved the detail of the set by quite a lot.

I like the fact that it's an updated Classic control room, but its so spacious and so white, it needs some colour, or at least something to contrast. Maybe the walkways could've and console could've been black, maybe the walls should be more of a grey. No problem with the actual design it just needs something. My hope is as it gets more lived in we'll start to see furniture, and blackboards like Capaldi. And I'm kind of hoping Ruby will be someone who's really into art and just starts doing a bunch of street art on the TARDIS walls. Just something to break up all that white.
@CulturePhilter9 ай бұрын
That street art idea is genius. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for it now.
@Simon-xc5oy9 ай бұрын
From what I saw of it the colour will start white, when its not doing anything then change and react to situations, moods and in flight. I think its a good idea and the clean look without all the grunge or stupid crap stuck all over the console is a relief. The worst one is Whitaker rock crystal mess, that never looked right it was like stone henge. And back on one level. The best before that was late Smith / Capaldi with the levels and design and great looking console.
@TomoBakerinio9 ай бұрын
I think the black colors suggested would ruin it as a classic tardis and its good that its more spacious
@cameronjosephvideos59429 ай бұрын
@@Simon-xc5oy I actually kind of like the RTD era one, it felt like a fresh out the Time War Doctor making repairs with whatever he could find. However, I'll say my favorites are the McGann Tardis and the Secondary Control Room for Tom Baker. I always felt the sleek white classic Tardis' don't really fit the Doctor's personality. I prefer the more Victorian aesthetics, it always felt weird to me that the Doctor wouldn't find a clinical lab looking control room kind of boring. The Capaldi one is good though, just the right mix of crazy sci fi time ship and whimsical coziness. Whitaker's main problem is it didn't fit her Doctor. A dark claustrophobic Tardis for a more cheerful and goofy Doctor, ugh. With a few tweaks and colour changes I could see Eccleston rocking it but Whitaker? No.

I find it a bit minimalist. I like the console design and I like how fresh and spacious it is - but maybe it's a little too much so for that main room, that one space we see often. I know the doctor and companion/s are usually stood around the console, being thrown about, but I think seating would have been a nice addition. There must be moments where they can just relax. How are you supposed to enjoy a nice coffee/tea (and a biscuit) if there's nowhere to sit? I do think the different lighting is a nice touch, which I'm sure it'll be utilised well depending on the mood they're aiming for in an episode. I assume this is the Tardis interior that will carry forward into Ncuti's first season. Perhaps the Tardis will accommodate for the 15th Doctor's own flair as you suggested.
@CulturePhilter9 ай бұрын
Given how much money they must of spent on it (each roundel’s colour is individually programmable apparently ) I can’t imagine it would just be for 3 eps no. Hopefully Ncuti’s Doctor will instal some seating.

I like how it feels like a modern take on the classic console room, in that it looks like a proper fresh from the factory spaceship interior, more USS Enterprise, less Millenium Falcon. And I've loved the previous modern TARDIS designs, but I think it's time for something new, which is what we've got. My favorites will always be the 9th/10th Doctor's console room and 11s first console room, as well as 12s, but I just wished we got more scenes like The Bootstrap Paradox monologue from Before the Flood, just scenes of the Doctor walking around interacting with all the different parts and details.

I do think that it could use some furniture. Like how Peter's evolved from the end of Matt's tardis by simply adding more furniture to it. I think it'd be cool if 15 added some decorations and furniture to it after 14 finishes with the specials. As it is tho I do love the white styling with the colored lights that I imagine will get used to great effect. And I love all the swirly walkways, I mean the doctor looked like he was having so much fun just running around the space, it's such a good element for him to play around on. But yeah the size does seem a bit big for having almost nothing else in it. Just some basic furniture or other minor decorations, probably around each of the various exits to other rooms, would be nice.
@spiralx62499 ай бұрын
Apparently all that running around was David's idea. RTD commented that by the 8th re-take, he was probably regretting that choice...!
@russbaxter18069 ай бұрын
I absolutely love it, but my first Doctor was John Pertwee so I grew up with the classic white look. For me, it seemed that from the movie onwards they were taking away the simple style and replacing it with something more and more cluttered - after all, it's a TARDIS control room, not a lounge. If you want somewhere more homely, then that would be in one of the adjacent rooms.
@Mischiefwithmiaa9 ай бұрын
It brings the uncanny alien back which tbh is something I really liked in 9/10s tardis , while still being clean and fun like mof era designs. I hope it fills up with nicknacks like how 14 just tossed his jacket over an armrest

We didn’t see The Doctor work on the TARDIS again until 13 and that was brief. This one is nice, but reminds me of a hotel lobby or the entrance room to a spaceship. definitely an improvement over recent iterations but there's still only one real interior and that's the original, really wish they would bring back the large interior doors, trying to work out how they could be bigger on the inside was one of the most mind blowing aspects of the early shows!
@CulturePhilter9 ай бұрын
I’ve always thought those classic interior doors should lead to a small porch area where the police box doors are.
@user-sq6hs1hz9u9 ай бұрын

Given how pivotal the rotor moving up and down was to all of the early TARDIS designs, I cant wrap my head around the fact that no TARDIS since Matt's 1st has gotten it anywhere near right. If I were to design a TARDIS (as I have in my head, many times), it would be "start at the time rotor, nail the uppy-downy movement, work outwards from there). I seriously do feel like we peaked at console design with McGann's absolutely gorgeous wooden part-gothic, part-art deco design with the blue intersecting blades in the rotor.

Yes, it's huge and it's white, point taken, but feels cold and impersonal. I also hope that it gets a bit of furniture or something because that was just the right thing for me to like the 12th doctor TARDIS, because the console and the time rotor were cramped from top to bottom with buttons and switches and lights, but the rest was just empty space in plain color and the story kinda does repeat with this new console room. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate it and I'm gonna root for this one room eventually because the TARDIS is my favorite ship ever, I just would like it to be a little bit less cold and empty.

@danieljames68999 ай бұрын
This new TARDIS is spectacular, it really gives you the feeling of entering a different dimension, you feel this detachment between the outside and this very alien place, the round things that act as lights and change colours make it particularly adaptable to different scenes, I really like the coffee machine integrated in the console, like I loved the biscuit machine in Jodie's. The accessibility is integrated so well into the design, so natural and not at all forced that one wonders why they didn't do it sooner. Maybe the only thing I would change is the use of the two Whites, the white of the console I would have used elsewhere and just like they did for the console I would have aged some parts. Obviously these are things they could do with Ncuti, as I'm becoming more and more convinced that in the new season when we see the 15th Doctor some time will have already passed for them and we won't see them freshly regenerated, just like was for 9th. So I'm actually hoping that this disconnect between the console and the rest is also due to that, and that it's a visual way to make the viewer understand that a lot of time has passed for the Doctor between now and when the new season starts, in addition to the jukebox I'd add some benches or sofas and all around like Capaldi's TARDIS I'd add something, not specifically bookshelves, something else.

I think it looks absolutely beautiful, it's definitely an amazing spectacle, but I don't think it makes use of the space very well, there doesn't seem to be any other areas in that huge space to use apart from the around the console like any other console room. It would have been nice if they could have put one or two other "floating" round platforms around the space which could have been other areas. I'm hoping that the "coffee machine" is like a Star Trek replicator and can manufacture objects on demand. I also hope that the large round object on the wall is a viewscreen (which wasn't really shown in this video), I really liked the round viewscreen in Matt Smith's first tardis interior

That said, I hope the next doctor is allow have more stuff to this space. Its bit too bare for me. So far, Capaldi's TARDIS was best as far interiors go in the main room. Okay so the time rotor is one of my favoruite bits, mostly - I do love the clean elegance of Mc'gans crystal looking tubes, but the 9/10/11 rotors always looked cheap, and the 11/12 one was gorgeous but I missed the motion. This? UNF this feels so much like the same piece of tech as the 80's tiered thing, and gives me such a feel of classic scifi with a proper budget.

I'm loving how the console looks slightly mismatched from the room itself but it still kinda works. I say this because the room is very sleak and modern, and although it's white, it has cool, blueish tones to it, whereas the console itself looks like a warmer creamy off-white, like it's made from aged plastic from the 70s or something. Old plastic will react with UV light over time and start to turn yellow or brown. To me, it's as if something brand new was built around something old, with the expectation that the room will eventually age and match the console, if that makes sense. I don't think the new interior beats Capaldi's overall, but just comparing the Gatwa console vs the Capaldi console, that's a close one.

One problem I have with the new TARDIS, I hate the coffee machine. It doesn't fit the rest of the console room, it takes up too much space on the console unit, it kind of looks like a Dalek, it just has to go. If I had to make any additional changes, I'd bring back the door box from the 12th and 13th Doctor TARDISes and add the larger teeth doors from the Classic TARDIS. I'd also make the Time Rotor move up and down again. And to add my own spin? I'd add some chairs and make the console unit rotateable. Imagine instead of running around the console unit, the Doctor could spin the thing to get to the section he needed.

It's definitely really cool. But I think I'd need to wait until it's used more and see how the space is actually utilised before deciding it's my favourite. Though tbh I've never had any attachment to a *specific* console room look. Matt Smiths is the one I remember best, but at the end of the day all these rooms are just "the tardis" and that's all that's been important to me. This could change that if used in an interesting way.

I feel like they should have given it stainless steel railings to tie it in with the design of some of the more recent ones. The white railings blend in with the walls and they look like plastic pipes. Alternatively you could also go with brass railings to match the colors of the console. That could work too. Also, there would be a whole lot more floor space if the base of the platform didn’t taper all the way out to the edges of the room. You could even put some furniture down there.

Initially I didn't like the design at all (somehow I managed to miss the leaks so my first introduction was in the show). And there's parts I still don't particularly like but there's good stuff too. It does look very classic but I think it's just a bit too large. I'm not a huge fan of the time rotor, I also like the tubes thing - The only exception for this in my eyes was Smith's first console room. Additionally I really don't like the huge gap between the console and the time rotor as well as them preturuding orb things at the base of it. As many have said already, the lack of creature comforts and the lived in parts need work. But overall it looks very clean and bright which I like. it's very nice to see a console room where the actors can run at full pelt around it. The passages and doorways are nice to see, and I hope with the new budget we get another glimpse of the expanded TARDIS. Overall it's growing on me. The only part that's maybe a hinderence isn't even to do with the actual console room... It's about the cut out. My favorite interior is Capaldi's, and one of the big reasons for this is it was fully enclosed set meaning they could film 360 degrees no problem. Imagine the shots where Capaldi was monologuing to the camera around the top banisters explaining the boot strap paradox. With this being an open set we're mainly gonna see the right side of the console or a close up of the characters in the left which is already evident just in that scene. I don't understand this as it's also the biggest console room yet.
@firet1018 ай бұрын
I think this is a huge step up from Jody's tardis however, it just doesn't speak to me if they add more to it over time that may change but it just feels too modern for a Mark 40 tardis if that makes any type of sense

Love the console and the overall aesthetic but I have one problem....it's empty. All that space and there's nothing in it. It worked in the classic era because it was much smaller, we only really saw three walls and it was all on one level. This one doesn't need clutter, it's minimalist after all but more control panels or something would help take away from the blankness of it all IMO.
