This is very good tutorial with easy-to-follow steps. I usually convert text to outlines. Your approach is different than I’d expect. Is there a benefit of rasterizing and then tracing (rather then the 1-step “convert text to outlines) ?

Converting the text to outlines seems to give you wonky results and extra paths in after effects. Rasterizing then doing image trace seems to get more streamlined results that will animate way easier.

I followed along, but I did it with 3 words. I'm having a problem with the third word though. The stroke animation starts at the last anchor point of the word, instead of the first. This is causing the Stroke Effect to run backwards. Since we are using a contents > stroke instead of path, so there's no reverse direction, and time reverse isn't a solution either. I tried adding a path and reverse it, but that did nothing. I also clicked on the first anchor to set it as the first virtex, but it just starts at that point, then goes to the end anchor and runs backwards still. I even split the words into their own shape layers, as well reduce the last word to even one letter, and it still has it's start anchor as the last one. How do you change the starting anchor point so it runs in the correct direction? I'm a bit lost on how to fix it.

you have to duplicate the layer shape with only the letters that are not tracing in the good direction. And then, instead of playing with the "start" option to male it writing, play with the "end" option (in stroke effect)

I really would use the pen tool for every single letter and I remember searching endlessly if there was just a better way to do it and could find anything. If only this had come out like 3 years earlier lol

How do you do this kind of animation with Serif-type fonts? It's fairly simple to write-on Sans Serif and script fonts but I haven't seen a good tutorial on how this method can be used with Serif typefaces or shape layers.

I had the same happen at first also, I think it was because the font was too thick (Shelby font). I found a thiner font (Handsome Pro Thin - Adobe font) and it worked better. I did still have to clean it up a tiny bit.

When I paste into AE, many of the paths animate backwards. It is not a fluid motion. How do I change the path of the animation to have the starting point on the opposite point? I just can't figure it out.
