Hi Julie. Very excited for (and a little jealous) of you!! You'll have a great time 👍 we didn't book anything in advance really and had no problems and we went in February as well! Sometimes you get better prices if you book through the local agents once you're in country. If you're headed to Monteverde/Santa Elena then you really are spoilt for choice with tour operators in the town so you'll have no problems booking something in the town 1 or 2 days before you want to do it 😊

Hi, my wife is visually impaired and we are hoping to enjoy the rainforest in Feburary, even if we can only do easy walks/hikes. We especially want to hear birds during our trip, and we plan to visit the Butterfly Gardens and the chocolate tour. Any suggestions?

We would definitely recommend Monteverde Cloud Forest then. There are some short, well maintained trails and you will 100% hear birds the whole time…especially if you hire a guide to take you round they’ll be able to tell you which bird it is 😊 the butterfly gardens and chocolate tour are also fantastic 👍 have a great time and thanks for watching!

Great video! I’m trying to decide between Arenal and Monteverde - looking for birding, wildlife, hanging bridges, nature… any suggestions?

Thanks Tracy! Honestly you will get your fix of all those things no matter which you choose! Both have sites with hanging bridges and nature is always around you. If your looking for wildlife spotting then the cloud forests in Monteverde are great especially if done with a guide...however if you want to see sloths then Arenal is the place to do it (Bogarin Sloth Trail). I think Arenal is definitely more geared around the volcano whereas Monteverde is much more about the cloud forest reserves if that helps! Whichever you pick you'll have an amazing time! 😊👍

Did you find that most places in Monteverde and La Fortuna area accept cards or did you plan to pay all in cash?

90% of places will accept card and we used our card for the most part. The sloth trail we did was cash only and obviously taxis will only take cash but otherwise you should be fine with your card :)

We're not complaining about the prices we're just letting people know it's expensive! Especially when you are on a budget or backpacking you need to be aware that you're going to have to spend a lot to do things.

Just returned from Costa Rica today. Yes it is expensive. Maybe if you go off the beaten path it is reasonable, but where tourists go, be prepared to spend a lot of money.

Many areas in Costa Rica are beautiful, but be prepared to see area of extreme poverty as well.
