Thrift store pricing in the Chicagoland area has certainly gone up but excluding that Winnetka stop, some of the other suburban thrift stores are better priced than what you found.

The Roscoe Village Thrift Store used to be good but now it's ridiculously expensive. I've heard they go to eBay and that's where they get their prices.
@serenajoyner28084 ай бұрын
Agree, found so many treasures there but now very few and far between. What's with the staff at the Northside locations. They are really bad especially one on Lawrence and the Clark street locations.

Yeah but even the thing about the vintage t-wall it's like like even Goodwill is doing that they even have their own online store and a eBay where you can buy like video games and clothing. That's more desirable vintage. I'm not saying it's the right thing but I'm just saying that's what they're all doing

Isn’t that the one in the video with the expensive shirts on the wall?
@seanodonnell98266 ай бұрын
The thing about the Village is that it's a for-profit "Grift Store", they've been raising their prices steadily for the past few years on merchandise they receive for free and then charge premium prices. That being said, I find good things there at reasonable prices on occasion. If that was the Salvation on Clybourn, it's located within the affluent neighborhood Lincoln Park, they know they can get away with juicing boho yuppies. The thrifting scene in Chicago is lacking these days to say the least.
@tycetycebaby6 ай бұрын
I hope people catch on to these for-profit thrift stores and choose to donate elsewhere. Thanks for watching the video and best of luck out there finding some grails!

This is MISLEADING. He shopped the Village and only looked at the WHITE tags which is full price. The store has 1/2 off on color tags. Again misleading for the Salvation Army. He didn't find the color tags, only the whites. When you thrift those stores you never go in trying to find a white tag.
@tycetycebaby7 ай бұрын
All the best stuff happened to have white tags. I looked all over. Maybe we missed some things at The Village but that Salvation Army was a waste of time.

You went to the wrong neighborhoods! I have a Village Discount Outlet next door to my building, and a couple more within like a mile or 2, I believe one is called Unique Thrift Store…anyway, I live in the Old Irving/Albany Park area, and the prices are WAY less than those stores. I found a Louis Vuitton wallet IN BOX for $30. It was selling online for $600+.

Goodwill is your best bet, all the thrift stores that ive been to, many have ridiculous prices, they are asking more than the item is worth, above ebay prices if you ask me. You can get cheaper clothes and shoes at walmart and ross in new condition.

I LOVE Winnetka Thrift. I make special trips from near Midway on the south side just to shop there. For expensive designer items, very reasonable prices. All volunteers! and super nice. Village Discount is pretty bad these days. Absolutely horrible customer service in the northside stores. Only decent ones are on North Kedzie and the south side locations. And only decent because much of there stuff is very overpriced even there. I look for the things they miss! Family Thrift on Pulaski just ok, horrible on Western. Dont even get me started on Salvation Army on Clybourn. The one on Harlem & 90th and Arlington Heights are the only good locations left for pretty good stuff. At least staff is nice at Salvation Army
@tycetycebaby4 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing. Why do you think Salvation Army’s in such close proximity are run so differently?

@@justincase4792 confused how places like that stay in business
@justincase47925 ай бұрын
@@tycetycebaby they stay in business because a good portion of their inventory they get free from donations. the rest they buy by the pound so they’re getting inventory for pennies on the dollar. Plus they pay employees very low wages. Most of them speak very little English if any at all so it’s hard for them to find employment anywhere else.
