Please first seek advice from your audiologist or otolaryngologist. Some tinnitus causes are 100% treatable by medicine or surgery, including high blood pressure, TMJ, etc. Only if your doctor says you have "subjective tinnitus" with no other treatment, you may opt for sound masking. For sound masking, headphones are recommended instead of speakers. There are two reasons. First, when a sound is played through headphones or speakers, there is always some distortion by hardware. Speakers tend to distort high frequencies more than headphones. However, the majority of subjective tinnitus sounds like high-frequency. Therefore, headphones maintain the high frequency of the sound better than speakers, leading to more effective masking. Secondly, headphones have better isolation to block unwanted ambient noise and improve your attention to the sound masking. Of course, we are talking about regular headphones vs. regular speakers, because HiFi speakers or professional headphones are a different story. No matter regular or HiFi or professional devices, on a professional level, one would need to look at the specifications of headphones/speakers, i.e. their frequency response curve, then use a standard coupler to calibrate the exact distortion of each frequency, and compensate accordingly. Lastly, please listen to this KZbin sound at a comfortable level, because very loud sound can harm your hearing long-term according to OSHA guideline. In short, please listen for 90 days, 30 minutes to 1 hour per day. This will allow sufficient plasticity time for brain reorganization to remove tinnitus permanently. Not just that, once a week, please score the severity of your tinnitus by filling out a clinic-standard form at kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHi6qX2el99jiZY. If your score goes down every week, bingo, you are recovering well. Best luck and wish you a speedy recovery!

Sorry to hear about your 90% hearing loss. Do you have 90% hearing loss in one ear or both ears? Please consult your doctor to see if hearing aid can help you. In research, some tinnitus patients benefit from wearing hearing aid and feeling better.

my painful tinnitus is suppressed for a few hours, thanks. The sound sounds similar to my tinnitus that is high-pitched with fluctuating loudness. The sound somehow seems to have mingled and reduced my tinnitus in both ears.

Tinnitus can sound like low-pitched or high-pitched, tonal or non-tonal, pulsate or continuous. Please go to your audiologist and test audiogram and conduct a tinnitus loudness matching. Your audiologist can also help you to rule out some causes like TMJ, high blood pressure, etc. Unfortunately, many tinnitus patients have no clear treatable causes and 60-70% tinnitus patients have some degree of sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). For them, sound therapy or hearing aid can be an option for treatment. Wish you best luck!
