I may be taking the bait Liam. Ultimate was invented in the USA and is played in the US more than anywhere else. But, you are probably right. The huddles, the 4 downs, the line of scrimmage, the blocking, the running down field with the disc, and the tackling all make it seem almost exactly like football.

A lot of sports are based off of getting an object from one place to another. Rugby, football, soccer, lacrosse, basketball, even ultimate. There are only so many ways to do it, so naturally there would be an overlap somewhere.

American football is the closest sport I know to ultimate frisbee. Most sports, save rugby and football, involve getting the ball/puck/disk into a goal or net, not getting into the endzone. When explaining to a new person how to play frisbee the closest sport to associate it with would be football. Obviously they aren't the same, but for the sake of helping someone understand the basic concepts of ultimate it isn't a bad comparison.

That last play was a definite foul. The disc was in position and all that happened was he was hit in the hand leading to a lost possession. That was not a D at all.

Very great video footage, and the highlight reel is compiled well. Tulsa Ultimate Federation in Oklahoma put on a tournament recently and there is some pretty great footage of the games on my channel if anyone is interested.
