Finding the best bumper and winch combo for your needs is important. I decided I wanted some armor and a place for lights and a winch that would not break the bank. This setup has been amazing. The features for total cost is hard to beat elsewhere. Plus, if you do not like these brands, there may be comparable alternatives by some of the offroad manufactures. Nice video. I’m having one built now for my ‘21 TRD Pro. Do you know how much weight you removed (cutting the plastic bumper out / removing the metal bar that’s there) and the approximate net weight gain of the new bumper? I’m curious about the effect on suspension.

Also remember the extra weight of potential lights and winch, shackles, etc. I would say the bumper is probably like 60-70 lbs. The winch is also probably like 60-70 lbs. The plastic and bar removed are probably like 30ish pounds...Just ball-parking off my memory. If it helps, the springs I bought for the front were to accommodate 230+ pounds of weight and do everything to prevent low front rake. If you never plan to swap the bumper out maybe go one spring rate lower? For OME, thats the 2885 spring which is rated for 70-180 lbs extra. Thats probably more accurate for added weight.

Thanks for the reply, and good points. I’m not adding a winch right away and I’m adding the Baja Designs light bar which remarkably is advertised at just 5lbs. If 30lbs is removed, it’s about 50-60lbs net weight gain I imagine. I actually just had a representative respond from Fox Suspension today on the subject, and their team states that up to 70lbs of added weight should not require suspension retuning, so I suppose it is right on the line without the winch option. @@twintips420 All good! Yeah if you have pre-existing suspension then I totally would understand not going through the hassle of changing the setup. You won’t be able to put those springs on the stock suspension though if I remember. If you add more weight than the 50-70lbs you will probably have to sell the stock fox suspension...also depending on your interest or use for the build you may not like the nose dipping and then the vehicle will not be level on the fox suspension. Many guys want to update their SR5 stock suspension to “Toyota approved fox suspension” so the TRD pro suspension like new sells halfway decent I have heard. Also, maybe you are a big Baja designs fan but for the same price you could buy a diode dynamics light bar and harbor freight badlands apex winch. Obviously its going down an upgrades rabbit hole because then you are getting lights, winch, and then new suspension to accommodate the new weight but dang Baja Designs is expensive for a lot of performance but much more light performance over typical needs. For example, nice low beam aftermarket LED headlights will put out roughly 4000 lumens combined. The diode dynamics bar puts out over 11,000 in white combo and Baja Designs put out 19,000 in white combo. I love Baja but they are expensive. Anyways, sorry for the super long response. Oh...did you already buy it with the bumper?

@@OverlandEngineer I went with Baja Designs only because C4 sells them with the bumper as an option on their website. I suppose other light bars will work fine. A focus of mine is to keep the truck as stock as possible, but the C4 Lo-Pro looks awesome, honestly surpassing the factory look IMO. But again, weight gain is a slight concern still. An interesting solution I am in process of researching now is a lithium ion battery replacement from a company called Antigravity. Believe it or not, the weight savings from their battery would be nearly 50lbs and almost counteract the bumper's added weight entirely. I'm waiting to hear back from their team to determine if their battery would be a good fit for a 4Runner in the climate I live in.

Thanks for the overview of the C4 LoPro Bumper and Badlands winch. It’s very helpful to be able to see how much room there is and how the various pieces will fit together. Great video! Just got my C4 Lo Pro Bumper today. I also got the high clearance bars. I'm also thinking about getting the Badlands Apex winch since the Warn Zeon 12S Platinum's price is ridiculous. You might want to look into painting the bumper with truck bed liner. It's a lot stronger and durable than rattle can paint and you can still retouch if it gets damaged, contrary to powder coating. I bought some Raptor liner off of ebay for really cheap.

Yeah, in hindsight it’s what I should have done...I will probably just remove it and send it to powder coating if it ever gets bad at this point. It is really challenging to paint the inside.

This may need slight tweaking because I think my horns sound different due to airflow. You may want to put in some spacers so they are a little farther away from that panel.

Nice setup man. Just a quick question, would this bumper be too heavy for bilistein 5100 with factory coil over in the front?

Thanks! That’s tough to say...it depends on how much weight is in the back. I would presume it would not be too heavy but you won’ get the full 3” lift of the 5100s with extra weight in the front. So you will have a front rake. But if you are carrying quite a bit of gear it may level out. I may make the ride a little more comfortable to have the springs more compressed but I presume that is counterproductive since you want 3” of lift.

Yeah it is a TRD Pro. The only negative impact would probably be MPG. But hardly a hit and mostly due to the lift. It has a 3" Old Man Emu lift in this video. Front springs are the heaviest duty you can put on the front struts so its made to handle the weight.

Couple questions: (1) noticed rad fins dented…what do you think caused that? (2) I noticed in your s and all other bumper install videos the removal of the factory aluminum bar. How do aftermarket bumpers change airbag performance? I imagine the aluminum bar allows for some flex and avoid premature airbag deployment. Maybe not an issue…but see direct attachment of a steel bumper that looks like would transfer all energy to the frame. Do the aftermarket bumper makers even have data on their bumper’s performance with airbag systems?
