Here is a full review of Seiko 5 ref number SNKK71. In my opinion is the best value for money watch out there. This Seiko is a perfect every day watch. Wear it on the bracelet for a sport watch and put it on a leather strap for a dress watch style. I think if I only had to own one watch on the budget this would be it.

NOTE: *the depth rating is 100ft (30m) not 100m, sorry about that. *I bought the watch on January 22, 2018 from Amazon Canada for $54UDS but the prices keep changing. @@albertcoledavies5992 it will fit perfect on your 6.25in wrist. My opinion is depends on your clothing. A bigger fencer watch fit great on simple clothing like t shirt, polo shirt. A thin small simple watch fits when you wear more fancy like suit, shirt + jacket. For 6.25in I think thin watch you can take from 34mm to 39mm as small, 40-42mm as big. 45mm like g shock size will be a bit big for long sleeve shirt.

Nice video and a nice watch. I think that every watch collector needs to have at least one Seiko 5 in his collection. It has it’s negatives, but the price and comfort (not to mention the historic value of the model) are unbeatable. And yes, as mentioned by another viewer the depth rating in 30 meters.

Looks great on a leather strap! I love ove its versatility. The lack of manual wind and hacking is a bit of a bummer, but, in a way, I feel that that's also part of the way that horology teaches us to accept imperfections (I know that's a bit of a philosophical statement, but I think of those shortcomings as being similar to the inevitable inaccuracy we all accept when we go mechanical instead of quartz). Everyone complains about the bracelets on the inexpensive Seikos; I appreciate that you're able to acknowledge the bracelet's shortcomings and still see them as charming! Mysterious. Great. Thanks Henry. That leather strap makes it look like a different watch. You're right these little negatives with the movement is what makes us appreciate mechanical time pieces. Because we have to put some effort into wearing a watch, you have to enjoy the watch to do that. Yes, I can see the bracelet's shortcomings but I still like it and I think it's very comfortable. I purchased a Seiko 5 about 10 years ago that has the 7S26C in it, I wore the watch for about 3/4's a year and the movement flat out quit on me, it's now about 9 years later and right at the moment I'm putting the NH36A in it which has the hacking feature, I'm going to do a short video of it when I'm finished with it. I originally paid about $100 over the net for mine and wasn't even going to retire the case, dial, hands and day wheel from it, I have everything ready to install the hands right now. It's basically the same as yours only gold plated. I also had the problem of it not winding like I like while on my wrist.

You came to the exact conclusion I have. I have the same watch and also put the same leather band on it. I wish I could find a day date Seiko using a hand winding mechanism, like nh36 day date movement that is low cost.

Nice watch. I took your advice and order it. But I found it on e-bay. Someone in the UK had it for 29 UK Dollars. I order it for 40 US Dollars. It has the blue face. he literally addressed this in the video. when your watch without hand wind can't fully wind even after a full day of wear, then the 40 hour power reserve is useless. it's less effort to wind the crown 30-40 times to full wind instead of shaking for god knows how long.

You should get a Vostok Amphibia and mod it. I have a black scuba dude which is automatic and handwindable. Easy to regulate and 200 meter waterproof and tough as rocks. The one you have there should not be taken out in heavy rain or near water imo. Oh and the Hardlex is a scratch magnet. Acrylic chrystal on the Vostok which is easy to polish out. I bought my Vostok Amphibia from moscowtimeseller and it was £55 with free shipping. You should try one on your rough and tumble adventures in the snow and review it.

Vostok Amphibia is definitely on my "get list". I also want to do a mod, maybe change the bezel, the crown and put it on the nice nato. I will make a video about it as soon as I get my hand on it. I just stumbled over this older video, oh yes I love the snk ... series, especially the snkl seikos. I have 5 or 6 of them in different colors, and what can I say - for this money - just incredible (for 50 to 70 bucks, i can’t get a service in Austria). I also go swimming - no problem! At first I was also very critical about the 7s movement but now I like these workhorses 🤔. Great vid! How often you visit your birthcountry a year?

Hey Prabuddha, I'd say go for which ever style fits you better. Both SNKK71 and SNK793 are great watches and they are essentially the same except for the different dials. I was choosing between the two myself. I went for a black dial because it fits my collection better. All the best, Oleg.

Hi Oleg, very nice review, and though I agree it's a nice looking watch, there are three deal breakers for me. At 37mm diameter, it's just too small on my 8-1/4 wrist. It doesn't hack or hand wind, and it's only 30m (100 feet) of WR, not 100m as you stated in your video. Like you, I prefer 200m, but I am fine with 100m of WR, as that is plenty for swimming, surfing, snorkeling, or really any water activity short of actual scuba diving. But 30m is basically barely splash proof, which is just not enough for a sports or a weekend/everyday watch. Also, the cheapest price I found on ebay was $72.30, which honestly, I can have either a Vostok Amphibian or Invicta Pro Diver 8926OB for that price, and they both have the three deal killers that the Seiko doesn't, both have 40-41mm cases, both have 200m WR, and both hand wind. I appreciate your reviews, and you have a nice presentation, but that Seiko may look nice, but it just doesn't work for me. Regardless, keep up the great work!

Either way the low depth rating is a negative. I bought mine at the end of January on Amazon Canada, they had a sale and I was able to pick it up for $54, now they're about $70 but even at that price I would still pick one. Nice watch! I really like the dimensions...both the black and blue sunburst dials are great. The main reason I wouldn't purchase one of these is due to the fact that it has no hand winding. Also will pass on the Seiko 5 because I just purchased a Vostok blue sunburst dial :) Definitely interested in a Seiko, it's just too bad about the movement.

Of course you are right. You can back wind hack a Seiko 7S26 and regulate them pretty good. The one problem with Vostok is the club you will become part of. It makes Seiko fan boys look like beginners.

I know it's been said before, but here are some reasons NOT to embrace this model: 1. The movement, while a proven workhorse, has some obvious shortcomings. Cannot hand-wind. Cannot hack. 2. The WR level is just barely there...this is NOT a watch to take into water and for many, that's a deal-breaker (for example, I swim at least 5 days/week so my watches need to "swin" too). Bracelet is very average. The "value" of acquiring this for around $50 US no longer exists. Prices may come down, but right now are significantly higher. This model may be ok for some, but there are other choices with advantages over the Seiko 5. Vostok Amphibia comes to mind. So do a few Casios. Very good review, Oleg, thank you.

But the mechanism in a winner watch is crap. I have a jaragar and tevise which use basically the same mechanism as winner and a couple seikos with 7s movements. Giving up handwinding for a better quality movement is a good enough trade off for me.

This watch is only 37.5 MM. I don't have a huge wrist 7 1/4 inches, But I have a Seiko five that is a 38 MM and I feel like I'm wearing hey ladies watch. I will wear 38's, but if I really want to look good I'm wearing a 42 to a 46 mm. I don't own anything larger than a 46, and if I ever do it better say Rolex on it. They say the smaller ones are coming back in style that I won't see it on the streets. I just can't get used to the small ones anymore. Nice looking watch though. But since Seiko moved it up to the hundred dollar mark I can find a lot better looking lunches at that price.

You're right the smaller size of this watch will not be appealing to everyone. As a dress watch 38mm is perfect for me, I have the same wrist size as you. My preference for sports watches is between 40mm and 43mm. All the best, Oleg.

the original bracelet looks like complete garbage, i generally hate leather for the impracticality of it, the smell, the sweating that it causes, but in this case it really makes the watch pop, I would however like to see it with a nice bracelet in case that transforms it as well, if so then i would buy it, another thing this watch wants is an antireflective sapphire crystal, that would instantly turn this watch into a $1000+ looking piece (along with a bracelet replacement)
