The book by David Frawley is the best for beginning astrologers. It covers the essence of planets, signs and houses and introduces perfectly the spiritual depth of vedic astrology. The book by James Braha (Ancient Hindu Astrology for the modern Western Astrologer) is also a classic. A very good book is How to practice Vedic Astrology by Andrew Bloomfield. Very accesable, clearly written, with a good understanding of the practical and spiritual meaning of the houses. Besides it comes with a free program to calculate your sidereal chart (as does the book by William Levacy)

I recently stumbled on to Vebic astrology with new passion, however with that being it is said it is easy to get caught up in spending a ton of money on courses for a quick learn. I quickly realized this is complex and there is no quick fix. Articles I have read for example of S American early culture spent their entire life studying astrology which only reconfirms what you are trying to drive home in this video. Thanks for book recommendations.

I like Beneath the sky. It's got planets in signs and the house lord combinations. And since I recently got interested in Ayurveda, chapter 19 talks about how a Vaidyar ( Ayurvedic practitioner) will check the pulse of the patient and also the natal chart as well as Prasna chart to give a correct diagnosis. Well, Ayurveda, yoga, astrology are all the limbs of the Vedas, I guess. It is difficult to separate one from the other. I like art and science of volume 2 for the house lords too. I often read both books. I don't have much luck with the nakshatras. It never really went into my head. I do have that 27 stars and gods book. Well, I shall study whatever I feel naturally guided to learn. It had been a great joy studying with the rest of the students for the spring class. Looking forward to fall class. Will you guys as well. See you on the forum.

Awesome, Ryan! This is excellent:) I was just finishing up a book today, Buddhist Astrology: Chart Interpretation from a Buddhist Perspective, that I'd started reading before taking your 101 course. The author has a section about meditation practices and how important they are for astrology, and it reminded me of your teachings. I appreciate the order that you put these in since I'm going to be getting your book and Kala for fall, and I've purchased Under the Vedic Sky but I don't want to dive in w/out knowing the fundamentals...so it's still on my shelf. Looking forward to the Myth and Magic course next too. I was thinking, perhaps you could do a video going over your own chart as an example--and all the steps you'd use if it was a stranger's chart. I think it would be fun for your students + listeners. Also, just heard that Charlie Sheen's got a Rahu/Moon. Interesting!

jillian clemmons My chart is pretty boring and 1 sided. But I do plan on doing some more course work putting together chart interpretation examples from the ground up. Although that will come a little after beginning the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra Course that I will post on this channel towards the new year.

Ryan Kurczak I would love to see an analysis of your chart or other astrologers charts. I read an article called "the gifts of the 8th house" and apparently most astrologers have the 8th house or 8th house lord connected with either the 1st or 10th houses so it would be great to see the interpretation of a chart like this in action.

Hi Ryan, which of these books talk a bit more about the signs? I find that most books describe the planets and houses in great detail but not so much the actual signs and I think it would be very helpful to get a good grasp of what these signs are like.

Sara Hawthorne That sounds familiar, but I've not read those books. How does he organize the system? Is it based on Parashara? Jaimini? Would love to hear more.
@RyansVedicAstrology9 жыл бұрын
Sara Hawthorne I scanned the information. It doesn't look much different than Parashara Astrology, simply organized well. Looks very similar to the approach I'm familiar with. Will look into one of his books eventually to confirm. Thanks for sharing.

Ryan Kurczak Yeah I use a program called Parashara's light in order to construct a horoscope, but I never read the interpretations on the program because they are outdated (You will have many cows and 10 sons.)
@RyansVedicAstrology9 жыл бұрын
Sara Hawthorne Hah. Understood, but that's not what I meant. In Brihat Parashara, that is where the majority of techniques and principles come from. Not the out dated interpretation, but how to read the chart...examples....ishta/kashta...planetary friend ships....Avasthas....vargas...planetary strengths...dasha calculations...etc.

In depth books for nakshatras?
@RyansVedicAstrology7 жыл бұрын
There isn't much original material on the nakshatras. Most new books are simply creations of modern astrologers embellishing, so the truth or not is hard to discern without a lifetime of study itself.
