aw, thank you so much for the note of support :) I think it's just more likely that people post when they feel something negative than positive, but I just always tell myself that they're more vocal than all the viewers like you who know and trust me :) Besides, it's good to have people who disagree and challenge us, otherwise we never grow or learn. But it's also good to also have support so we don't feel alone, so thanks for posting your thoughts publicly :)

yeah, they're awesome - I mentioned them in the article on the site, I just didn't have any on hand to show in the video :)

well, it's not about adding protein - it's about the form and the digestibility. From what I've read, beans aren't digested well enough after an intense workout to be beneficial. So I mix the protein with fruit, which is simple carbs to help replenish the muscles' glycogen stores. As I said in the video, I'm not worried about the amount of protein in total - it's about the relative % of protein to carbs/fat. Just my thoughts, and wanted to show how many options there are instead of whey :)

hahaha... I didn't want to be mean to it in the video, but I'm not a huge fan of the flavor... For the cost, protein ratio and taste, I'd rather just use a rice or quinoa protein :) The hemp protein from The Good Seed tastes totally different, and as I said, I don't use it in the same way as other proteins

no worries - there are links in the article, but not ones that I'm getting commissions for. What I DO sell are my meal plans, cooking classes and consultations :)

I like to add protein powder to my morning green smoothie because it keeps me full longer. I also use it post workout blended with fruit. My favorites are Vega Sport Performance or Vega One. Sun Warrior is also great. For something on the cheaper side, I use Garden of Life. I did recently try a sample of Plant Fusion, and it tasted great! Great video, Heather!

Just to be clear, I don't make ANY money from protein powders (affiliates, sponsorship, commission) - I just wanted to share info with people who are interested in protein powders as to which ones I've tried. I get a lot of questions from people wondering which ones are ok. If you're not interested, that's totally fine :) But please be respectful in your comments - to me and to others who may have different views and needs.

Good info. I agree with getting most protein from plant-sources. However, the benefit of the protein powder is like you said, relative higher percentage of protein. I think it is beneficial when incorporated with meals or added for flavor/texture. I see that in this vid you mention you are trying to gain lean muscle. Well, I specialize in muscle firming, toning and development without gaining bodyfat. I have several vids on my channel and I'm plant-based. In fact, I may make a video for you.

protein powders are easy to be absorbed, without work from the stomach, pancreas, etc many ppl are missing protein because they do not digest very well, they do not have so much digestive enzymes or even gastric acid in the stomach, so this protein powder would be so very helpful for them and for everyone that is tired from sports and needs quick reinforcement and building blocks for repair muscles, but also for those that are tired from other motifs...great presentation ! thanks :)

thanks for the vote of support :) and just to be clear for everyone - I'm not even trying to sell anything in this video, I don't get a commission for any protein powders, I'm not an affiliate for any of them, and I was not paid to show any of these in my video - they're just the ones I personally have tried. The only thing in this video I was actually trying to sell was the free email signup on my site :)

Heather could correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe in this context refined foods are those that are concentrated. Therefore, refined foods will lose more nutritional benefits simply because they are further "processed". I'm pretty sure Heather is aware of what "refined" means and if you're watching her videos then you must agree that she has good information to pass on. Of course whole foods deliver the whole package, but she states the specific purpose the powder serves for her.

Yeah, I was going to write Heather about the Sunwarrior Warrior Blend, made with organic Cranberry protein, pea protein, and Organic Hemp protein. - then I see you mentioning it. I'd tried Chocolate flavored one last time, but the Vanilla one has more Amino acids, so this time I got the Vanilla, so, I'll be sticking with Sunwarrior brand for a while.

from what I've read about it, seems good - ingredients-wise, I mean. I haven't tried it personally, but if you like it then go for it! I included it in the full list, if you click on the link to the article you can see how it compares :)

The most recent protein powder I've bought is a hemp-based one I found at Pangea. It's a bit grainy, but good in smoothies.

I train cardio and weights. I am it seems the only guy in the gym doing chins. I weigh 85 kilos and I am 5 foot 10in. I life about 100 kilos for reps on the flat bench. I do not take any suppliments as in B12 or protein shakes. I eat brown rice, fruit and veg and water and tea. That is my own experience so what does that tell you.... not sure.... but it makes me wonder why people need suppliments also. Oh I am a vegan not for selfish reasons but that I hate eating meat.

If you watch my other videos, I'm usually all about whole foods, for just the reason you mentioned :) The thing is, it's not a 'natural' thing to go to a gym and lift weights for half an hour. Sometimes in our modern human lives, we do things that aren't what our prehistoric ancestors did. So if we have new ways to do things that can improve our lives and performance, I think it's worth at least considering with an open mind.

Please mr know it all the way to word your comments are not welcome if you are disrespectful to Heather...I personally believe with too much toxicity we need extra boosts besides wholefoods, I do believe Jordan Ruben protein powder products are awsome and some of his powders are 100%raw(Garden of Life at wholefoods stores or online....Thanks Heather..

I really like Plantfusion, but my all time favorite is Shakeology's vegan protein shakes. They are organic, they have prebiotics and probiotics, and loaded with fruit and vegetables that most people don't/won't eat. It helps to curb my cravings and it stops my husbands stomach problems that he's had for years. You can check out the site from the link on my YT profile.

Please, accept my apologises for my harsh and disrespectful comments, you didn't deserve it. I am just sick of seeing people selling overpriced things that we don't need (maybe not your case), which in some cases do more harm than good. But you have a point on being respectful (on your other comment). After all, we all should be free do make our choices.

Protein powders are unnecessary. In my opinion you recover a lot faster and feel a lot better if you leave them out. My favorite after workout snack is ripe fruit. It digests fast and gives me loads of quick energy. It also seems to give me the quickest recovery time.

some good info here. I was just thinking about my current protein product and whether I should use use.

I'm confused Heather - the current science suggest that not even athletes benefit from ADDED protein, so I'm not understanding why you'd want to add more to your diet? Most protein powders that I've seen add about 7-15g of protein per serving, which is less than a small serving of red kidney beans (for example), so why not just add an extra serving of beans or tofu to your post workout meal instead?

Has it never occurred to you that whole foods have carbohydrates and fats that come along with them simple because we need them all together in one natural package, or the "whole foods" idea? Also, you don't make much sense when you say that "protein powders are processed, but not refined", maybe you should take a look on the definition of the word "refined".

@300gates12 жыл бұрын
OK, I was too harsh on my comment. But willingly or not, she's being dishonest, no one needs ridiculously overpriced refined (yes, refined) foods in order to boost "protein percentage". And she says "protein powders are a way to increase the relative percent of protein, and whole foods don't do that", excuse-me!
@300gates12 жыл бұрын
Humans have been thriving for thousands, maybe millions of years without protein powders. Our body recycle protein and you probably know that. So you should be honest with your viewers and yourself, and tell the truth about this video, and that is: "the specific purpose" you are using, and promoting protein powders (that no one needs whatsoever) is to make money. Now, there is nothing wrong about making money, and you can do it perfectly well without be dishonest with your public.
